I am having a problem with my 89 civic dx hb. After about a 40 min drive the tack goes crazy and the car starts cutting off. Ive had this problem ever since i got the car. Does anyone know what the hell is wrong with it?

Re: tack goes crazy

might be your fuel pump going, kinda sucks, because you won't know unless you check it out or it finally goes

Re: tack goes crazy

Yeah, I thought it was the the fuel pump too, when my car was doing it, but it wasn't.

It was my coil going bad, and I got it fixed, and now its going bad again and doing the same damn thing.

Can you explain alittle more what it does?

With mine, it would jump and the tach would go wild, and then it would just die and coast, but if i put it in gear and pop the clutch, it would start again. And sometimes it would die when I was at a stop, and would take forever to start again.

It really sucks and is a huge pain in the ass.

I had a similar problem, but mine turned out to be a bad head ground connection. It sounds like the Ignition Coil. It might be the whole distributor. Pop the cap off and check the voltage on the coil. Put key into the on position, get a voltmeter, remove the two wires, I belive their black/yellow, if not they'll be right next to each other on top to unscrew em. It should be putting out 0.6-0.8ohms I believe. If it's like 1.0 it's fine. Check the ignitor unit too, there will be some plastic caped wires that you remove, makesure you remember the order and check them for 12v each i believe. Also, check you ecu. Usually located under the carpet on the passenger side. Check it for how many blinks it does and check online for the problem. I would reccomend getting a book before you do any of this so you get a better picture.

check your wires before you go crazy ripping everything apart...my tac was going crazy for a little while too, and it turned out it was just my#2 spark plug wire broken off underneath the boot on the distributor cap.
