Turbo a KA24E??? (note NO "D")
Ok, I am the lucky owner of an '89 with a KA24E (not a -DE)
Can the KA24DE kits be used on this motor? Will the tranny hold up (or is it the same?) Can I expect similar HP results? Can I run the same recommended boost? Any internals I should upgrade before turbo-ing? Anything else I should consider?? |

No, the DE kits can't be used on the E. check out www.realnissan.com they specialize in kits for the SOHC KA. The tranny is the same as far as gearing, but a tranny from the DOHC KA won't fit onto the SOHC KA, or vice versa. Can I expect similar HP results? Yeah, you can expect similar results in HP. Can I run the same recommended boost? Yeah you can run the same boost as a DE. Just make sure your motor is built for what you want to run. Any internals I should upgrade before turbo-ing? Depends on how much boost you want to run and what condition your motor is in. If it's a low mileage motor that hasn't really been beaten on then you can safely run 7-8 psi, but I wouldn't push it more than that. Anything else I should consider?? Just make sure you have a complete understanding of what's required to go turbo before you start your project.

Sweet, thanks for the quick answers.
The engine has 170k miles on it so I may just have it rebuilt and get some upgraded internals of some sort. I have decent experience, just finished building up a Stealth RT/TT to over 500hp but it came with turbos... I just had to do bigger turbos, injectors, fuel management, intake/exhaust, etc. I haven't ever actually installed a turbo kit but can follow directions. ![]() I found one brand new for sale for $2000... it's "used" only in that a guy owns it but never installed it. Includes a FMIC and everything. |

I wouldn't call the RFL a screech, more like a long sneeze.
![]() I have recordings of the RFL and the H-34 that I made with my professional recording gear. Btw that's how I got the extra BOV, as a trade for recording and letting them use the sound on the website. Both recordings are in my twin turbo Stealth, running 15psi on stock 9b turbos. You'll hear several revs with hood up, with a blow-off, then the car driving past and shifting, then 1-2-3 gear from inside the car. Recorded with a $600 microphone onto Digital Audio Tape, digitially transferred to my digital editing system with NO processing at all. .wav files, approx 3.4mb each Please right-click and save-as. Re: Turbo a KA24E??? (note NO "D")
No, those are the only ones they sent to me.
The RFL I forgot to mention wasn't "tuned"... I had it too loose so you can hear some whistling. That is no longer there. It's loud, for sure. Definately gets attention. But it also holds boost well (I've seen 20psi on the Stealth with my bigger 15g turbos). I figured if I'm going to get one, might as well let people know I have it. ![]() The Blitz SSBV or something like that sounds pretty sweet, too. |

It's the slowest reacting BOV out there. The air the the pipes still oscillates back and forth between the turbo and TB before the BOV finally decides to open. It's so slow it's almost like having no BOV. Also the internals on them are very weak and they break all the time. It's got the best sound out of all BOV's out there IMO, but I'd much rather be faster and save the life of my turbo than having a cool sounding BOV.
