Question ignition timing

For about a month now my timing has been off by about 10 degrees. I have some knowledge of timing but can anyone explain to me what was happening to the eninge while the timing was so off. The actuals were before setting the timing was 0 degrees the spec calls for 10 degrees. Which it is there now!!!

Thanks
paul
