Question 93 Grand Am dies after running for awhile???

HELP!!!

My daughter has a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am, 2 door, that for some reason dies after it's been running for a short time. No error codes to report, car runs just fine and then for some reason quits! The car has been in the shop several times and we changed the catalytic converter, spark plugs and wires, fuel filter, coil pack, vacuum hoses. Anyone that can offer advise as to what may or may not be the probable cause, please let me know. Low budget need help fast.

When the car cuts off will it restart immediately or does it just spin over?

It'll start right back up in park or in neutral but the second you put it in drive it stalls again.

Grand am tranny

My grand am had the same problem. It would drive fine for a while but then when you go to stop it wont downshift. The lockup torque converter switch goes bad in them. Just replace the switch and you should be good to go i think it cost me about 250 to get the whole job done. They have to allmost pull the tranny.

It will not damage your engine....your engine will just run at a higher RPM due to the fact that the TCC is not engaged

It definately sounds like a bad TCC soleniod...I would also recommend replacing the switches too.
