91 f150 voltage guage bounces, vehicle wants to die after driving for awhile.

I have a new battery in it, had the alternator tested and it tested good. What else could it be? Once its been running for awhile, the amps drop down damn near to the 8 mark on the guage - if ya turn ac on, it drops further.

Thanks,
Scott

For starters check the negitive cable that runs from your battery to the engine block. Also have you had any work done to your truck lately? Other that insalling the new battery.

The only negative that come off the battery goes to something that is run off the main belt -- its not the alternator and grounds out onto it is a brand new cable. No - not that I know of. I just got done doing a tune up but the truck was like this prior to me doing a tune up.

I was going to suggest maybe the voltage regulator, but the book I have says your truck has an internal regulator in the alternator, and you said it tested good. That is unless you have the optional 165 amp alternator, which has the regulator on the back of it.

If your truck starts and runs good, I would guess you have a bad connection to the guage or a bad guage. Really, the charging system is pretty simple, as in not many components. I would agree with a bad ground connection.

Good luck and please update.

The truck doesnt always start good. if its warm, it has a hard time starting which is leading me to believe it might be a coil bad on it. Once it sits and cools down - she fires right up. A buddy of mine also stopped by last night and said check your cap and rotor cause if thats cracked, it can also be acting up like that.
