Usually When I high rev first and second gears, as well as the
downshift to 3rd and 4th, I hear this rattling noise. The other post I read about my problem was about the heat shield rattling against the CAT, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how that works, by cutting it or so. The rattling noise is really annoying, because when I try to take off, the rattling begins, and I stop because I'm afraid something bad might happen, plus in parking garages when I try to set off alarms (MUAHAHA) i hear the echo of the rattle anywaysif anyone can help me with my problem then il be very thankful! haha

the problem u are hearing is mostlikely between 3k and 4k rpms.
that would be the headers. integra gsr's have had a problem with the a-pipe in the header cracking therefore a rattling sound comes around 3-4k rpms because thats where highest amount of pressure is let out of the engine and through the header. so try the heat shield, but im almost positive its your header. |

Well can you tell where the sound is actually COMING FROM? That is very important for us to know.

Rattling Noise
What You are hearing is the Catalytic Rattalitic. It is the result of a gutted Cat. I don't thing that there is a solution to this problem; just don't gut your CAT. I don't think it's worth it, and the long term damage you do to your lungs after reversing is not worth it; it stinks and destroys all signs of life on God's Earth. The Rattle is annoying. The car also smoke when you punch it. Leave the Catalytic Converter.......you need backpressure anyways espically if you want Turbo so stick with a CAT. The best practice to do to a Honda is to remove the resonator between the CAT and the muffler and put 2 1/4 piping instead of the 1 1/4 stock. On High end Honda Models (EX, VTEC, or Si or whatever else) the stock muffler will do just fine. I tested it and it makes no horsepower difference to take it off. Don't let your Honda make Catalytic Rattles.

The symptoms of the noise you talked about were the perfect symptoms of Catalytic problems in a Honda. I am only telling you this because it may be something to do with the Cat. Gutted cat's or malfunctioned Cats on Hondas make a distinct rattle between 3 - 8 k RPM espically on downshifts. So you may have a catalytic to deal with....By the way do not ridicule me, I was only trying to help you and your slackin car

Its the stock header the plate inside rattles over time, if you don't want or have the money for an aftermarket header take it to an exhaust shop get them to drill one or even two holes right at the part of the header that looks like "Y" where it connects to the cat then weld the holes back closed to hold the shield still and stop rattling. My bro has a 94 GSR and had the same prob and thats what he did, worked like a charm.
EDIT: This thread is probably really old, and have the problem fixed a long time ago. |

My car makes that same noise too except my car makes it from 3,000 to 5,000 RPM or when i let go of the gas in low gear or downshift. I took off the heat shields but it kept on making the same noise. I don't think its your stock header or your CAT because i have aftermarket header and CAT and it still makes the noise anyway. I'm going to change my exhaust pipe to 2 1/4" to see if that'll stop making that damn noise.

Sounds stupid but the reason mine did it was because there was a very small rock in between the heat shield and the exaust pipe and it just kept rattleing away and the only reason i found it is because i started my car on a lift and listened for it and sure enuf there was the rock.
