Talking Blown Engine =P Need Opinions

Hi guys,

My buddy got a 93 Dodge Stealth ES from a family member who just didnt want it sitting in his yard anymore. Havent had a chance to look over the engine myself yet but I think we have a very kewl project car on our hands

We got our sights on an engine swap.
We're looking at swapping the engine to a TT or maybe one of the VR-4's from a mitsu.

Any opinions and/or links to some resources would be kewl especially reputable shops that might sell these engines in working conditions. I myself have done an engine swap before, but it was on my WRX I am new to this car but am looking forward to some fun with it

Sorry for the long post, thanks! =)

*excited to tinker w/ a new toy*

Re: Blown Engine =P Need Opinions

I'd suggest getting a replacement engine of the same type (is it DOHC or SOHC?) get the DOHC from Crate...they have reasonable pricing (considering they want $400 less for the whole engine than a dealer would ask for the block alone)
Build from there. these engines have high power capacity.

The engine is the base SOHC. The potential for these engines seems great. I've also been looking into swapping in one of the DOHC TT.

Thanks for your opinion dude =)

No problem. Love the cars...that's great...but take careful note of the sig, cause I can almost guarantee you that it will apply to you eventually.

Bearings seem to be the weak point in all ranges of this engine, from SOHC to Twin Turbo.

Okay I think you guys have scared me straight *chuckle* I'll see if I can convince me friend to stick with the stock SOHC and add a turbo to that one.

The install will probobly begin in January so I'll keep you posted on our misadventures.

Happy Holidays and thanks for the advice guys.

No no no... Don't turbo an N/A 6G72 motor. If you are going to go with forced induction, just buy a TT motor. It can be done. Good luck finding a transmission that will hold the power though.

uhhh....... why not FI the sohc??? ripp mods has a SC kit out with full headers for around 3-4k that would get them to at least 230-240 FWHP!!!!!!!

not to flame but just because its an N/A doesnt mean its worthless and the only option is "get a TT engine" or "why dont you just buy a TT" plus a swap is way more involved than droping a TT in it. just my .50

$3000-4000 will EASILY buy a TT motor with turbos and cover the cost of the install. I bought a new motor for my RT/TT for around $2000 with turbos and paid someone $1300 to install it (along with some other random things like water pump, timing belt, etc). So, it was more or less a full tune-up and install of a new motor for around $3500... AND, you start off with 300hp (or 320, depending on the year motor). Add in a FEW cheap mods, like a manual boost controller and DSM injectors, and you can make some serious power for very little money.

i said at least 230-240 WHEEL HP you said 300 BASE/CRANK HP
n-e-way 3-4k and you get everything you need plus headers full long tube headers and you start with 245 TO THE GROUND. dont know if you have ever dynoed your car but i've seen two TT's dyno back to back one a 93 RT TT 256 AWHP and a 97 VR4 276 AWHP both with basic mods intake exhaust and such.
so why just jump on the nuts of the TT's when they have an engine thats more than able to put out 300-500 hp?????

ahhhh...... eather way it not going to be THAT reliable. but its all up the driver/builder. you can do a swap or you can have a custom one of a kind style deal, neather will be reliable.
