Question Blown engine, need help!

My friend let someone borrow her 97 celica ST with the 1.8 engine, and they blew it up. So now she needs to find a used one. Does anyone know a good place to find a used motor? She was also thinking about replacing the blown 1.8 motor with the 2.2 135hp motor from the celica GT of the same year. Would that work? I am pretty sure the tranny would bolt up, but the ECU's might be different. Can anyone help us out? Thanks in advance.

Could you throw in one of the engines from the new celica gt-s? That would be pretty nice

Yeah I was thinking about doing that, but that GT-S engine is designed to bolt up to a six-speed transmission (which that car has). The 97 celicas that came with a manual transmission were all 5 speeds. So i doubt the motor out of a six speed car would bolt up to that 5 speed car. I'm sure that it's possible, but it would probably be a ton of work.

I have a 1994 Celica ST 1.8L engine w/150k and automatic transmission. Engine runs great. I actually have the whole car, though front passengers side collision. Looking to sell parts or whole car. I will transport a reasonable distance. Make offer if interested.

Re: Blown engine, need help!

i dont' think he wants a whole project just advice. This girl doesn't seem like a racer- i mean, she bought an ST- just a girl who wants more power for her car. She doesn't need a 3S-GTE or anythign like that. Just a new engine for her, or if she can, cheaply, one that's a step up.

An engine swap is expensive. She tell her to consider parting out her old one to help ease the cost. Since its an 97, and not like my 89, its still cheaper to buy a new car than a new engine. Stick to ONLY the GT or ST engines. Don't overdo it. The GT engine will give the ST a bit more power. The GT-S may require a bit more work that's unneccessary for. Be practical. Ebay has the best prices. There were a few on there last week. Find a good mechanic and invest the money into someone who can do it right the first time without screwing it all up and wasting more money to figure outwhat he fudged.

Re: Blown engine, need help!

what exactly is wrong with it? did u just blow the bottem end or top end? you could buy a high comp 4age and swap it, the deck height on the 7afe (u had) is alot hgiher, putting it on the 4age shuld up the comp to somethign like 11.3:1, but ur stock ecu will still handle all of tthis, the swap isnt hard, but would take alot of time...are u changing the mtoor or is a shop?
