Need opinion on 2 engines

ok here's the deal. my friend was originally planning on buying a B18C5(ITR) from a company called JDMsource but then my other friend told me he's selling his engine which is a B18C1(GSR) that's modded up and boasts the same power as the ITR. he said he runs 14's on a quartermile or something like that. Now in ur opinions guys, which one should my friend buy? ill give u an overall conparison between the 2:

B18C5(ITR)
stock
200hp
130torque
includes:
tranny
wiring harness
ECU
mounts
$5571CAD
30,000km
__________________________

B18C1(GSR)
modded
(same output as ITR he said)
skunk2 cams
Type R pistons
performance ECU(forgot wat kind)
LSD(limite slip diff.)
more mods but i forgot some
includes:
tranny
wiring harness
mounts
4-1 headers(he'll include it)
$4000CAD
40,000km

these prices are set with tax and everything. My friend's got the money, he's just wondering which would be better. This is for a 96-00 Civic hatchback swap. Keep in mind the GSR engine has been to the drags but has been babied as well. The ITR engine is a JDM but no idea what the last driver was or how he was at driving. Hope these info will help u guys decide.

personally i go with the itr motor, it hasnt been abused nearly as much im sure, and your friend can mod the thing anyway he wants, not just using some parts someone else liked. my money is on the itr.

that's a good point. although he said the parts are new. he didn't have any force induction system. just All motor drag. my friend is having a hard time deciding cuz it's a contrast between price, output and reliability. for one, the ITR engine will be in a different province so if anything happens it will be a great hassle to get it fixed or warrantied. On the other hand, the GSR engine is from a friend of ours. We also know that he knows his stuff when it comes to performance and he babies the car no doubt.
Second, the price is pretty cheap for the GSR that performs the same as an ITR. He said the only difference between his engine and a ITR is the fact that the block isnt stamped with the ITR model but the output is similar if not better.
Third, the point that he took the car for drags may have revved the engine a lot so faster wear. but again on the other hand, the ITR is from japan so he has no idea either if that person has been dragging it, or just plainly driving mad with it. it's a choice between someone we know that took the car to drags but with just all motor compared to someone who we have no idea about his driving history and driving habits. But also keep in mind that the ITR engine is from a engine shop and not a private seller so they might clean the engine before selling it. this im not sure though.
Keep those replies coming guys. thanks

Re: Need opinion on 2 engines

I agree with the comment from CRX, but at the same time, I always thought that a ITr motor was built for n/a whereas a gsr motor makes sense with other options (f/i or n/a). You can always sell the pistons and get higher CR or lower CR rather than sticking on a low ball, there are many people that'd love to buy skunk2stage2 cams if you want to upgrade to TODA or something. [TODA spec C is the shit). Oddly, I'd go with the b18c1.

Re: Need opinion on 2 engines

id pick the gsr after a good compression and leakdown test.

PS: Why dont you ask JDMsource for the test results? I wouldnt buy from a place that does not garuntee a no crap swap.

i believe jdmsource guarantees to replace the engine in case of crap swap. what i meant by no guarantee is that since i live on another province, it will be a huge hassle for me to take a very long trip just to get to jdmsource and if the engine does break, then that means i have to spend more bucks just to tow the car all the way to jdmsource. I likw ur idea with the gsr engine being a choice if the compression and leakdown test reads good. luckily my class has a compression tester and a coolant leakage tester so i think i might just do that. thanks superblue civic.
