Are MKIV Supras overpriced?

I put my 2000 Z28 in the paper a couple days ago. I've always wanted to own a MKIV Supra twin turbo. I looked through the autotrader and I see a bunch of them going for over $20K that are 11 years old and have over 100K miles on them. WTF!!!!!!!!!! I mean the car is old. I know it has reoinforced interanls and can hold up to 700 whp on stock internals, but c'mon now. That's alot of dough for an old car. Do you guys think they are overpriced?

yea i think they are over priced but also supply and demand people are willing to pay 20 gs for a surpa so of course people are gonna charge that much and they have a awsome image in the street racing world. some cars hold value and some dont. its like a corvette some are like 1994 or so and 20 gs just bc people love vettes and willing to pay it when surpas came out they were like 40 g or so. simple rules of supply and demand!!!

Yeah they were priced to compete with Corvettes they seemed to hold their value quite well that is until they MKV is released in 2005. Then they will prob drop like the 300z and the Rx7 did.

I've always felt they were overpriced for their level of "out of the box" performance. Certainly they're an attractive and potent car with alot of potential performance, but between the initial cost and the cost of parts you have a level of cost that could get you into some other incredible machines.

For instance, $25,000 can get you into a Porsche 930 (the early single turbo RR 911) which I guarantee you has more potential for performance than the Supra.

Re: Are MKIV Supras overpriced?

They are extremely over priced and thats the singular reason that the car doesnt sell as well as it should. Pretty soon they will out price themselves and no one will buy them anymore... which EVENTUALLY will cause a price drop or the MKV comes out which may never happen

if you want to know what happened to the price of supra's it all started with fast and the furious. Because as soon as that was released people increased the price of supras and wrote little lines saying 'now you can own the car that was the star in the movie the fast and the furious.'

And yes they have been hyper inflatted

infact you could have made money on supra's if you bought a bunch of them just before fast and the furious. Like $5000 a piece.

Toyota have been making supras up untill 2002 in japan. The likely hood of a new supra to go against the RX8 and 350Z is quite high.

in any case, the only way a supra is overpriced is if you can't afford it...

Re: Are MKIV Supras overpriced?

yes and no its overpriced cause I have no money and want one. But if it got cheaper you'd see a lot more of them riced out. And if that happened I would cry. But it would be cool to see the whole honda civic trend go away

Re: Are MKIV Supras overpriced?

Agreed, they're overpriced. Unless, of course, you're cross shopping between a ferarri and supra. That's pretty unlikely, though. For 20-30 grand, I'd sonner try to scrounge a r32 GT-R off of motorex, or buy a used porche or NSX.

uhhh im almost positive they stopped production for supras in 1998 with the MKIV, since then there have been MANY rumors about a new MKV but we wont find out until thye actually release it being that Toyota has been very secretive about all future car products

Um, yeah. Supras are overpriced just like late RX7s and to a lesser extent 300ZXs. Hopefully they go down a bit soon so regular folks like myself can afford one.
