1999 camry brake light indicator

My brake light indicator goes on as soon as the brake is pressed after the car is started and stays on. I have checked all my rear lights and all are working. The dealership mentioned a $274 lamp failure indicator. Where is it and how do you check it? I can't find it in Haynes. Could it be the brake light switch problem? Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: 1999 camry brake light indicator

njrees,

Before taking the car to the dealer, check the level of fluid in the master cylinder. When it falls below the minimum line the light will come on when you step on the pedal. If it is low, just fill it with DOT 3 brake fluid to the maximum line on the side. That should take care of your problem.

Re: 1999 camry brake light indicator

If it is the brake light failure warning light fluid won't help.(Good idea to check anyway). The light failure sensor is in the Haynes manual on page 12-38,and shows it between the rear lights and the dash light.Usually in the trunk.

1998 Camry brake lights/third light dont work

I recently installed an aftermarket rear spoiler with third light. While searching for a brake light connection wire i inadvertantely short circuited the brake light system...i think......????
I checked the fuses and they are good.....i changed the bulbs but still the brake lights dont go on when i step on the brakes.......the brake light failure sensor works as the dash light symbol is lit up......what am i missing ?

George.

2nd generation light failure sensors are located behind side wall of left side of trunk. Bright yellow box with wire haness connector pluged into it. About a 3"x3"x1/2" box.

Re: 1999 camry brake light indicator

hey
common problem i have noticed is if you replace the third brake light bulb, the wrong bulb installed will work but will still trip the light indicator, not sure which brand but a possibility,
also check for broken wires in the trunk harness
