I am new to offroading, so bear with me. I am thinking about putting a 2" lift on my X, but I am not sure what kind to get. I read through some posts and seen that there are body lifts and suspension lifts. I know that one raises the body and one raises the suspension, but what is the purpose of both (besides the obvious)?? If I put a 2" lift on my X, which on do I do? Is there any other things that I will have to do with the 2" lift?? I am going from driving a Honda Accord that sits 2" off the ground (without the annoying a$$ thumping bass coming from the trunk) to driving my X. So this is all new to me. Thanks for your help.

Re: Just a few question's about lifts
Body lift allows larger tires, nothing more. Larger tires in turn put some extra stress on the steering, but that's about the extent of it.
Suspension lift helps clearance (front, but not rear), allows larger tires, changes handling and ride, puts more stress on steering, and incorporates some tougher parts. First questionis why do you want to lift your X at all? That will help determine which way to go. Brent |

i'm running 32x11.5's with no lift. you'll have to trim a little in the front, but not as much as i did in the rear if you go with 10.50's
a coping saw works great for hacking up the mudflaps and fender flares. a lift is nice, but its not really needed, especially if you're only doing light wheelin.

very few companies make a 32.10.5, so i went with the slightly wider 11.5.
you might be able to get close to a 32x10.5 using the metric conversion stuff, but i don't do math. intake: k&n, airraid, jwt popcharger and a few others. exhaust: borla, gibson, or nissan sport header: slr is the only co. making the headers, and it would cost you a few grand to fit one on the x.

Re: Just a few question's about lifts
Any 265/xx-yy tire will be a 10.50 width, you need a 285/xx-yy tire to be about 11.50 width (11.2). If you have 16" wheels, a 285/70-16 would be pretty much a 32x11.50 (31.7x11.2) but I don't think anyone makes that size. There's also a 275/70-16 (more a small 32x11.50) in the BFG AT that's an excellent choice though, and of course the 265/75-16 is more of a 32x10.50.
No need to spend $ on a formal lift kit to fit 32x11.50 or anything narrower or shorter, especially if you're not going to work it hard off-road. Brent |
