question's about a 1987 ex cop car crown victoria.

there is a 1987 crown victoria in my area and i haven't really been into cars like this, but after seeing it i luoved it, but i have some questions about it.
1.is there any way to make this into a manual transmission, i noticed its the 5.0 engine, so possibly put an older mustang's transmission in it somehow?

2.is it fast enough that i could have lots of fun with it and dragrace at a competitive pace?

3.is there a big choice of aftermarket parts for this car, again since it looks liek its the 5.0 engine so maybe older mustang parts work?

4.anything i should look out for, it is an ex cop car so it could have been used pretty roughly, i've heard about them ramming into the ground under the frontend and have been told to check for any damage.

5.it is selling for 800$ and is just aobut perfect condition, and the engine runs very well, and interior is flawless, and it has one of those light things above the mirrors that you can point at things. (LOL)

The cop ones came with the 5.8 ones. yes, you can upgrade parts on the car, just look on the internet. www.crownvic.net i have a 94 cop package, and it is veryyy fast with the 4.6. you can get your 87 to be a fast drag car, or a show car, or whatever you want, depends on your tastes and your money.

Re: question's about a 1987 ex cop car crown victoria.

not all cop cars have the 5.8 jasong145 but most do. But if it is a 5.0 and you want to have fun and race with it there are a couple of things you can do but not a lot. But it is hard to find parts for are cars that will give a good performance gain because are 5.0's are different from the mustangs but the parts do interchange with a little modding to them and sometimes you dont need to mod anything. One thing is you can go to a junk yard and get a HO 5.0 engine from a mustang and drop it in to the car but there is a good amount of work involved and you need more than just the engine you also need the computer and a mass air flow. The second thing you can do is depending on the gears in the back change them, also get a different set of cylinder heads because stock Vics heads are crap, also change the cam, and the lower and upper intake, and TBody too. And i am not sure what to look for as high risk damage areas on the car.

Re: question's about a 1987 ex cop car crown victoria.

gigglesnirt is it a 5.0 or 5.8? But if the engine is a 5.0 and not the HO 5.0 or 5.8 i would get a different set of cylinder heads because stock 5.0 Vics heads are crap. also To take advantage of new heads is to change the cam, and the lower and upper intake, and TBody, also an adjustable fuel regulator and better fuel injectors, also a set of headers and a dual exhaust too. To get these parts you can go to a junkyard and plus a junkyard will be cheaper, you can also go to jegs.com for the parts, and pretty much an mustang store or website will have some parts that will fit the car too.

Re: question's about a 1987 ex cop car crown victoria.

gigglesnirt what is the vin of the car because after 1985 pretty much all of the 5.0's were fuel injected and if you have a carb i believe you have the 5.8 and not the 5.0. but if it is carb i will get back to you on the restrictor plate.
