I just have a few questions about F1's...

OK heres what I want to know:

1. What chassis # is the one on Park Lane in London?

2. What chassis # is the one at Shelton Ferrari in Florida?

3. Does anybody have pics of George Harrison's F1?

4. Does anybody know what chassis # Harrison's F1 is?

5. Has Gordon Murray ever owned an F1? If so, what are the details on it (chassis #, if he sold it, etc.)

6. My last question is: Does anybody know the chassis # and who owns the F1 that Andy Wallace drove to the famous top speed of 240 mph?

Thanks

You could have searched for these answers (if the AF servers didn't keep going down every 10 minutes)

1. The car was chasis #65, but its now been changed to XP5

2. No idea

3. Yes but its small and blurry (I got it from here, so do a search)

4. No, sorry

5. I think he did (or does) I don't have anymore info

6. It was XP5 and its owned by McLaren and is now in the Park Lane showroom

I just have a few questions about F1's...

McLaren Guy - You're the one who saw the Shelton car in person - you're supposed to be telling us what the chassis number is.

No one has yet confirmed what chassis number it is. I will add that I have a lead on the actual owners name. I believe you were lied to when you were told that it belonged to "Mr Shelton". I can't prove that yet, but there has been other info floating here and elsewhere that suggests the owner of the car is just a friend of the dealership's owner. I'm certain that they aren't handing out the real owner's name to anyone who might inquire, so a logical answer would be to say that the owner of the dealership is the owner of that car.

As I mentioned in another thread - I have information on a US F1 owner who has an F1 with a description that is a near match to the Shelton car. Also, if you look closely in the photos, you will see that car has been fitted with the F1 GT interior treatment. I'm still trying to confirm if the F1 GT interior treatment is a match based on what my source knows about this other US owner's car, but I would be much more inclined to believe they are one in the same simply based on the fairly unique interior color.

= = = = =

As for Harrison's F1 - it would be chassis #025.

025 - 1994, 24th car built, Dark Purple Pearl

There are actually a decent number of photos of Harrison's F1 available on the web, but none are very big. The largest sampling of photos comes from a Japanese website and shows the car in a showroom environment. There's another set of photos that came from an exotic car dealer's site of the car in that same setting, but the car doesn't appear to be very purple in those pictures. It's possible that the showroom is that of Schaefer Automobile - they are the official German servicing dealer for the McLaren F1. They have had a photo of Harrion's F1 on their site for quite some time and have also used the car in their display booth at the Essen Motor Show. In most of the pictures of the car from Essen, it appears to be an almost muted grey color

The one picture which best shows the color of the car comes from that Japanese site I mentioned:

There is one other distinguishing identifier relating to Harrison's F1 and that would be the red 'double-S' Senna logo on the rear cap of the car above the exhaust. Harrison was a huge fan of Ayrton Senna and they were also very good friends.

Here's a shot of that logo on the car:

= = = = =

Question number 5 is also something I have pondered in the past - I have no answers for you though. It would literally shock me if he never owned one - I mean it's his own creation from his mind - a "no compromises", "blank development check", "world's greatest roadcar" - how could a guy with the passions of Murray not have one just based on those three points. There's always the chance that he couldn't afford one, but I would assume with the successful career that he has had, he would certainly have the money. Anyway, it's an intriguing question that I too would love to get a real answer on. Speculating on something like that just isn't nearly as fun as knowing the truth would be.

Well the Aubergine car would be different - I don't believe that Harrison was the customer who insisted his car be painted Aubergine. If you have other info on that, please share it. There's a lot to remember about these cars, so I could have confused myself. The Aubergine car would be:

016 1994, 19th car built, Aubergine

As for the webpage, the original one seems to be gone - if I run across it again, I'll post up the link. I did find this abbreviated page with some of the pictures, about a third of them I would guess:

To follow up on the info about Harrison and Senna being good friends, I found this quote from Dhani Harrison, George's son, that came from an interview on the web:

Q: Who's your favourite Formula One driver?

A: Ayrton Senna, it has to be. There is no other Formula One driver for me. Ayrton Senna was just one of the greatest men that will ever walk the face of this earth.

Q: Did you meet him?

A: I did, I meet him, twice actually at the British Grand Prix. I remember being at the British Grand Prix and then seeing the first McLaren F1 road car being demonstrated, and sitting in the drivers seat and thinking, wow I'm in the coolest place on earth and I couldn't be any cooler. I'm sitting in the McLaren F1, that is the coolest thing ever. And then looking through the windscreen and seeing my dad, thinking you're talking to Ayrton Senna and just thinking, Get me out of this car I wanna go and talk to Senna. And yeah, he was just incredible, and I think his whole philosophy and everything that he was about goes way beyond the level of understanding that Formula One drivers have at the moment. I think it's been dummed down.

Neat little story I thought.

Just a thought: why would he have to own an F1? As long as he continues to get a paycheck from McLaren he has a choice of XP5, F1 LM XP, F1 GT XP(?), another roadcar or two, possibly customer cars that need sorting, a GTR or two... It is tough to believe that he does not own an F1 but why buy one when there are so many at his disposal?

drewtms is right, Murray does not own one. He has access to all the factory cars.

When I last saw him, he drove a Mercedes A-class! He has mentioned both facts in interviews as well. That he loves his A-class and thinks it's very practical and economical. And that he can drive an F1 any time he wants.

Peloton, my clues that Mr.Shelton owns the F1 at Shelton Ferrari are: 1. The lady behind the desk told me that he did and that it was not for sale because he just wanted to show it off 2. I noticed that the car is registered in California, where I'm told that Mr.Shelton lives.

Well that confirms my suspicion that the Temporary Registration tag in the window was indeed from California, and that jives with the information I have on the location of the actual owner. I'm still waiting on confirmation of the interior treatment matching. I also may have a connection to the son of the owner of Shelton Ferrari to get the official scoop. I'm going to send him something once I have all the facts lined up and see what he can confirm. I'll keep you posted.

BTW: Did you happen to take a photo of that Reg sticker in the window? There's a strong possibility that would have the VIN # listed, and from that we could pull the chassis number out of it.

No, sorry, didn't get a shot of the Reg sticker. Just glanced at it. If you could get the story on it from the son of the owner, that would be great.

I've done some research, and if the color of the one at Shelton is called "Dark Silver", it is either chassis #12 or 45.

Check out this interview from Classic and Sports Car Magazine Sept 03.

It confirms that the aubergine paint scheme was requested by George Harrison
