Metal Plated Bodies........
Quick question here regarding metal plated bodies. Just bought a Tamiya porsche GT3 with metal plated body without really understanding what it is good for !?!
What are the painting procedures for the body............. Love all the chrome looking parts. Anyway.........do i just paint the body as i would with a plastic one. Later, Mike.

i would advise rubbing it all down to remove the panel lines, i think i heard somewhere that household bleach removes chrome paint in ten minuites?

Thanks for the advice but whats the point of having a metal plated body if im only going to sand it down to the plastic. Need some more explaining on this one, thanks.

its supposed to be a nice finish for the car but i feel it makes it look cheap and toy like. thats why i said you might as well sand it down and start it again from the base plastic

To remove the chrome from any part i use oven cleaner, it clean the part in 5 minutes.

yeah..Bleach will just do the job, just throw the chrome parts in bleach and it will dechrome in 15 mins or so. Bleach's cheap and easily found anywhere.
 The point of having a metal-plated body is to let modellers waste more money.

Metal planted bodies dont do any good really, cuz you are going to have to sand it off to paint the body. Just sand all of it off, my suggestion is websanding, its way easier. Good luck.

To be fair, the point of Tamiya's metal plated bodies is to open the market up a bit. It's for the guy who always kinda wanted to build a model, but is too intimidated by the idea of having to paint one. So they buy the plated 350Z, build it up, enjoy the results, and decide that modeling is cool and that they're ready to build that Ferrari they've always wanted. But really, if you've built cars before, the plated kits realisticly aren't for you. Most of us I think would be driven crazy by the visible mold lines!
 But if Tamiya can use these kits to inspire a few more people to build car kits, I'm all for it! (I just won't ever build one of these kits myself....  )

I agree MPWR! I actually purchased the S2000 version, but only because that was the only S2000 kit available at the time.
