95 Villager remote unlock won't work

Hi all, I have a 120k miles Villare GS that just started having a problem with the lock/unlock remote. About half the time it won't unlock the vehicle. I can still gain access with a key but the van won't start unless the remote unlock button is pressed because this allows the starter to engage. I guess this is a security features. I've replace the battery and the remote but no change. Everytime it does this, and won't start, I remove the negative terminal off the battery, reconnect, and then it'll start. But it's kind of a pain to do this for almost every start.

It's almost like the remote radio receiver doesn't always receive the signal. I'm not sure where to start. It's a shame a small electronic device may bring an otherwise great vehicle to it's knees. Any suggestions?

Maybe what I should be asking here is how do I turn off the Villager security system?

Looks like what you may have is a bad timer module or inhibit relay or anti-theft relay............
But to me it sounds like its the inhibit relay( its located in relay box by the radiator ); remove it and look at its prongs; hold it in a way to make the prongs look like a "U" shape; the prongs are numbered as follows:

upper right #1
upper left #2
under #1 is #3
under #2 is #6
bottom middle is #4 and on top of #4 is #7

......use a jumper wire from positive terminal on battery to the #1 terminal and then use another jumper from neg terminal to #2; now with an ohmeter check the resistance between prongs #4 and #7; If it is more than 5 Ohms then your relay is bad....let me know what you get and I can help you further

Thanks for the reply. I ended up having the dealer disconnect the security system. I'll look into your fix and possibly reconnect the system.
