HELP! how to change air filter for 1999 neon

Today I wanted to change the air filter for my 1999 neon then I found out the cover was impossible to open. I think I almost broke the 2 clips on the cover. Maybe I tried the wrong way. Can someone help me?? thanx

i have a 95 neon. heres a little h.p gain tip. take the whole air box out and toss it. the get yourself any cone filter for a airintake and put it on your stock air sleeve on the end of it where it would go into the air box, it works the same as a intake system and is about a $100 bucks cheaper. i did that and gained5-6 h.p it made such a big diffrence and sounds great to.give it a try and let me know what ya think

hey i had the same problem but i undid the clips easily and it worked i think u just lift it them up from the back of the cover. Then i bought te ractive intake and took the whole stock assembly off. Now its actually fun to drive even more because it whistles like a turbo and when u open it up it sounds really fukin good. I have a stick so i can control the whistling sound i duntno how good it would be with an auto
