Questions about my new (to me) 1999 Corolla
Hi,
Hi I recently purchased an used 1999 Corolla Automatic) and I have accumulated some question after one week of use. Here is the list of questions/problems that I have discovered so far. Rear Suspension, The rear tires seems to drift to the right when going over small bumps. It feels like they were loose or something. Also the rear tires rub against the wheel well when the rear seat is occupied while going over a speedbump. Could this be faulty shocks? Radiator fan If you stand facing the engine compartment (front of the corolla) you will see two electric fans attached to the radiator. the one to your left turns on as soon as you turn the key to "on" and will remain that way regardless of the car`s temperature. The fan to your right never turn on. What should be the normal behaviour? Also the temp needle always stays just below the middle. For example if you turn the engine when is cold in the morning the needle takes only about a minutes to get back in the middle. I doubt this is normal although the engine is not overheating. What should be the normal temp position? Drivetrain Ihave noticed excesive noise from the front wheels while the vehicle is in motion. If you accelerate the car form 0 mph you hear a little "clinking" noice for a couple of seconds copmming form the right wheel until the car is over 5 or 10 mph. Could this be caused by due to worn CV Joints? One more thing, My corolla is missing a plastic cap that goes over a button located above of the shifter`s "PRNDL1" initials.(not the OverDrive switch) What is this for? I know that these are a lot of questions, but I really need you help thanks Hector David Salinas 1999 Corolla (american version) San Pedro Sula, Honduras |

Your tires shouldn't rub at all..I have a 1.8" drop and still nothing rubs. I can't answer your other questions, but the guys over at www.vvti.net probably can =)

The button above the shifter could be a safety type device. I think that it might release the lock so you can shift out of park if the switch stops working that allows you shift when you step on the brake.
