2001 Yukon SLT Engine Dies

I have a very strange and troubling problem with my 2001 Yukon SLT. The engine dies intermittently... very intermittently. For some reason this problem occurs with the engine is very warm and has been running for quite a while. Once it dies, it will not run until the engine cools back down. I even drove it for two weeks without having a problem. When it is running, it runs perfect.

It is still under extended warranty and has been sitting at a GMC dealership for over 1.5 weeks now. They are having a tough time figuring it out. It doesn't help that the guys have to run the engine for around six hours before the problem will occur. This makes troubleshooting it a time consuming process.

The guys at the dealership called GM's technical services (I guess that is tech support for GM shops). GM suggested replacing the fuel pump... which didn't solve the problem.

Anyone have any ideas? I would appreciate any feedback immensly.

I did take my Yukon to a different dealership that did some shady work to it. I went in there for a fuel system service, and they replaced one of the injectors and a couple of sensors. Their work quality was poor. The wire splice that they made to connect the new sensor was pretty shoddy. However, I informed the service department, where my vehicle currently resides, about the work the other dealership has done. I even gave them copies of all my receipts from the previous dealership.

Apparently that hasn't helped them solve the problem.

If anyone has any input for me, that would be great.

Thank you all in advance!

Re: 2001 Yukon SLT Engine Dies

I had a similar problem with my 00 YUKON XLT. Turned out to be a switch on the fuel pump that went bad. Hope this helps.
