2001 Yukon slt hmtl bulb replacement

Hi: Does anyone know how to replace the bulbs in the high mount tail light assembly. According to the bulb book, its supposed to be a #194 plug-in bulb, but how do you get into it thanks ....Mike

Open your tailgate. There will be 2 rubber plugs on the inside of the rear body panel. Remove the rubber(hard plastic) pluga, and there is your screws!

Thanks for the reply Big Jay, but alas, just as I thought. The brakelight module has LED bulbs in it and it is not servicable. I dont know where the bulb books came up with a #194 bulb application. I cant wait to contact GMC dealer to find that this unit is probably $150.00.

Yeah, I wanted to say that I didn't think the Yukon CHMSL used regular (e.g., 194) bulbs but wasn't absolutely certain if such was the case for '01...although if I was a betting man I would have said that it didn't take 194 bulbs...

There should be a part number on that assembly; go to gmpartsdirect.com and plug that number in to see how much the discount price is on it...

I would think that the LED's would last a very long time. Is it possible that the connector is loose, or maybe got wet? Just random thoughts...

It may also be worth checking eBay. A number of folks (myself included) have upgraded to the Escalade rear glass. You might find the CHMSL unit at a steep discount...good luck!

Take care,
Jerry

Re: 2001 Yukon slt hmtl bulb replacement

just an update, I went to the local dealership to find out how much the fixture would cost....T my surprise, its under warranty ( I have 2001 with 29k miles on it) all bulbs are covered on 3/36 factory warranty. I always thought they were considered wear products, thus "not covered". I appreciate all the advise, if nothing else I learned how to get the thing off the truck...Thanks all

One would hope that they would cover it under warranty since the bulbs aren't user-replaceable and LEDs typically have a longer lifespan than filament bulbs.
