Question question about reliability...

hi, ive been looking around to buy a camaro, prob 1999 or 2000. ok, all love for the car aside (ok maybe not all), is it reliable? im currently at a dorm up on a hill so i dont have much opportunity (or cash) to be working on it alot. is there a diff in reliability between v6 and v8? right now i cant afford insurance for an 8 cylinder. thanks!

Re: question about reliability...

i wouldnt worry at all about reliablity of the car, the major thing i would look at is the person you are buying it from. look at how the car was treated, if they beat the snot out of it, then its probly not the choice for you, if you buy it from a little old lady, who drove it to the store and back, youd probly be set. i work at a chevy dealership on the line, and we get more corvettes than camaros, and the camaros we get are usualy modified, and its the modification that fails!!

Yup, what he said. I've not had a problem with either of my Camaros, the 95 or the 01, V6 and V8. They've been very reliable. You can beat on them pretty well before they give you any crap. That's not saying go out there and tear them up, but they are sports cars, and they're made to have fun. Enjoy them...

Re: question about reliability...

lol, speaking of beating on them, got lost on my way to a concert the other day, and desided to drive over a median to get in the right lane, well, the median was a bit taller than i thought, and hit it at around 50-60mph, went airborn, landed, skidded around, and gained control. when i pulled her into a parking lot to check the damage, found nothing. i mean, the alignment is probly out, but aside from that, she took it like a champ, and this is the same car that got nailed by a mid 70's lincoln a little while ago, and she still runs like a top. just her driver side door (where she got hit) wont open. so if your worried about them not taking abuse, i think that speaks for its self.
