Questions about mitsu reliability
hey there,
im thinking about purchasing a car. ever since i first heard about the future release of the lancer evo viii i have been looking forward to this month. however, i have heard continuous complaints about mitsubishi's car lineup and how certain flaws within the fuel lines, brakes, rims, paint, etc. have caused numerous problems for consumers. i just want some input from you fellas that actually own a mitsu. as you may know, the subaru wrx sti is supposedly arriving to the US in June perhaps. putting out 300 hp and 300 ft/lbs torque, it's comparatively superior to the lancer evo viii. time is important though, i need to buy a car, so the evo viii is the first car that comes to my mind. i went to the philadelphia auto show couple weeks ago and saw the evo viii in front of me. i love the way it looks, especially in silver. i always take care of the car i own, so some input about lancers would be great. thank you, sincerely P M

I've changed my mind to save up for a lancer evo vii because it would cost too much money, too much maintenance, and too much worries modding an accord. |

I've had my '02 Lancer since well...Jan '02 and never had a mechanical problem related to OEM parts. I think the two Mitsubishi cars that are most infamous for problems are the 3kgt's and 2g DSMs. I've read everything form that crankwalk is as common as teeth to that it's isolated cases, and the 3kgt just has too many tech doohickies on it. The only Mitsubishi I have personal experience with is my current Lancer though, and it's not exactly old. At just over 10k on the odo it's not exactly under high stress and hasn't been too seasoned.

I currently have a lancer and before that I had an 02 eclipse and I had no problems. Imports are really becoming reliable cars. The only problem I have w/ Mitsubishi is that their warrenty is only 3 yrs. of 36000 mile, and their mechanics at the dealership try and make you believe that any mod you make voids the warrenty, but that is the only problem. I am very satisfied.

I own a 2001 Evo 7 currently. It's been good, not much mechanically problem at 11000 km. The only thing I am not happy is 2nd and 3rd gear synchros seem to be grindy. Apart from that, the car is solid!

My mother used to own a Jap import Gallant with the old 4g62? (1800 DOHC) which recieved a fair bit of abuse and stood up quite well against it.
And my father has owned several Japanese and Australian assembled V3000's as company cars which also went extremly well. Mitsi are no better or worse than any other Japanese Manufactor, being they are generaly average in terms of build quality on thier base model cars, moving towards some of the best with thier higher end cars. But of course thier will be local variations, and with most Manufactors now having plants in the US and importing fewer and fewer cars I cant say anything about the reliablity of US built Mitsi's.

The Lancer has good reliability- the Galant is somewhat less so- but this is a Lancer forum- with proper maintenece and care they will last you forever

EVO 7
I currently own a 01 evo 7.... no problems what so ever. One thing I do notice is that sometimes there is a small grind when changing into fifthAs far as I can gather 99% of Japanese cars are 99% reliable!

I am currently driving a 91 Galant VR4 which has a turbo. This car currently has 170K miles on it without a rebuild and no major problems. I regularly shift at 7K and the engine still feels very strong.
