2000 teg gsr vs mitsu spyder gst

Well after work yesterday 11-18-03 I went to a friends motorsports shop who recently opend. There were afew cars there (the teg and a civic. I showed up to talk to the owner about his srt4 about a turbo upgrade. Well I show up and everyone wants to see what ive got. I pop the hood, nothing special, abit modded but non the less Im still with the stock t25. After a talk with the srt4 owner the teg owner says he wants to see how fast my car is. They ask if ive been to the track, i answer no, cant get past inspection (helmet and 2 lugs missing). Well he says hes running a 14.8 and shows his slip. Pretty impressive, im looking at his motor. They say its a gsr with intake, headers, cat back exhaust. I tell him its nice (cool looking dress up kit as well). Well I tell him I live 70 miles away from here so lets get a run in on my way home. So we head out to a local road where no cops are around. Then we come to a stop. I ask the guy to go from a roll because im not the best driver and my car might run a 18 sec 1/4 mile with me driving from a dig(lol I really need to learn my take offs). Well he replys lets do It first from a stop, i agree. Well take off comes and I feather the clutch out of 3k rpms. He takes off spinning tires. He gets a 1 car lead by the time I catch traction in 1st gear. 2nd gear comes I miss and get it finally in. I slip in the clutch and the car redlines to 6k By this time hes 2 cars ahead and I break and flash him( thinking damn he probably thinking my cars not as fast as he thought. We stop and talk again. I say Im no good from a stop, especially with 18 inch chromes ( p.s. yes carrrnuttt kinda like when we raced but with chormes not stocks). He says well drag racing is all about from a stop. Im like I agree, but Im not set up for drag at the moment. He replys me neither. I tell him well those 16s with brand new tires are doing you more justice than mine then give alittle giggle. Then I ask him how much do those type of tegs weigh. He says his car weighs around 2700lbs or so. I reply well im ranging from 3500 to 3600 lbs. I ask lets go from a roll and thatll give alittle tell whos the quicker car. From a stop its all about the driver and tequnique. I state again that I should be trading my rims for some 17 inch lighter wheels sence I just recieved my new turbo the other day and will be doing a more drag orientated show car instead of the bling bling pretty car. He agrees to go from a roll in 2nd gear. Im at 3.5k rpms and tell him to go and ill go when i hear the vtec. He gets off and hes ahead, im to his driver door. I mash the gas pedal and 16 psi instantly comes, 4k, 5k, 6k rpms and im 1 car ahead. I switch to 3rd and hes in 4th by now. 60, 70, 80mph and I parely pull half a car or so. We shut down(im 1 and a half a car ahead, where afew people are waiting for us and we stop to chat. I say yeah its real fast, but Im just no good from a dig. Hes saying its ok to admit you lost, drag racing is all about the dig. Im thinking to myself * damn this guy thinks his cars faster than me just because Im beatable from a dig by mostly any car*. Anyhow I say lets meet up back at the shop. We head out and we decide to give it another roll go. Again in 2nd gear we give a 1,2,3 count and go. I pull a car in 2nd gear then break ( we are no longer on the hideaway road). He then talks on his cell phone kinda ignoring me. We get back at the shop and hes telling me to admit I lost. I again tell him that im not the best at the digs. Even on stop light racing i tend to back up alittle to get alittle roll before the green. He then says well im not the best from a stop. At this time im thinking *how the hell does he think hes faster than me when in 2nd gear I pull 1 car? I then say ok good race. I dont want to argue the point anymore. I head on home thinking how PHUCKING HORRIBLE of a driver I am and I NEED to sell these damn rims and get this phucking turbo in this weekend. All in all thats a fast ass gsr and im not as fast as I thought I was. *Its good to be humbled abit here and then*.

you should do some practicing, i hear were your coming from, the fact that your car is faster with equal drivers, but you live on the streets, you gotta learn the dig and the roll. just go some place empty and practice on your take off, thats what i did when i had my talon. i would give it about 2000rpm's let of the clutch almost all the way and push it back in just a little and then pull out. but every car is different.

Re: 2000 teg gsr vs mitsu spyder gst

practice the take offs.. my cars a real bitch to do it now.. anything over 2 grand I spin like crazy, granted I'm still moving pretty good while I spin.. if I launch at 1 grand (idle) theres a slight chirp then 30 in like a blink of an eye.

can't believe the guy kept going on and on.. get your launches down think you'd have him

Nice race, bro. Get rid of that stock turbo and you'll get him next time. Nothing more satisfying than wiping that stupidass grin offa your opponent's face when you take him.

I don't know if you mentioned this in another thread, but what turbo are
you getting and how much boost are you gonna run?

And about the launches, hate to sound like a bitch but....

Can't go wrong with AWD baby!

LOL. Nice runs.

I think he needs to be humbled by an old, POS STOCK Sentra ...

Now that I have better tires, I think I'll be good match for him, especially from a dig...

21 PSI? I don't know what mods you've done to your car, but I hope you have a new fuel pump and injectors already. If not, be prepared for detonation. At least, that's what I've read from most places. On the stock fuel system, ~15 psi is max. However, I don't know your mods, so if I'm wrong, I retract this entire post and apologize. Btw, I'm a big DSM nut, so if you want to look into places with parts/advice on your dsm, here's a few rlly good sites:

Yeah well my $600 in mods will barely do any gst no justice. Especially with a already heavy spyder on 18's. Now I hear the turbo upgrade is where its at. Figuring that with the 14b I could run 16 psi with all the bolt ons I have. And mr, i know alot about dsm's and thanks for the links, but ive been there and read most the facts. The stock internals for a 2g 4g63t can handle any output of boost a 14b can give(roughly 400 or so hp. A 14b can run 24lbs and that wont even be close to 400 hp. I do have a 255 walbro fuel pump which will allow me to run maybe 18 psi on the 14b. Now thats 2 more psi than im running now and running ALOT more air than the t25. So remember carrrnuttt when I barely creeped up abit that last race. Next time you should be looking at tail lights 1 gear earlyer new tires or not, turboed or not, race gas or rocket fuel. I think your still gunna see tail lights.

Im glad you gave me alittle pointers. But really ive have my car for 2 and a half years. Ive learned abit over the years but most recently the past 6 months when I started to actually add hp gaining mods. I do have a upgraded fuel pump and stock injectors. that should allow me to run 18 psi on the 14b or so. And its called getting KNOCK or Fuel Cut not detonation. My stock internals can handle any psi output on this turbo safely weither it be 24 psi on race gas and upgraded injectors or the 18 psi with no afc, my internals will hold up fine. I know your getting a 1g awd soon. But ive been with my dsm for a long time now and know my car isnt as fast as a lighter awd dsm. Im not in it for all out speed. I wanted a decent sporty looking car and most of all I always wanted an eclipse for the looks * I actually never new they had turbos or awd. When I first bought an eclipse I hada white spyder gs. They could not finance me so I went to the dealership with $2500 down and a 97 neon for trade and got my black with tan top spydergst in 2000. The first thing I bought was the rims. Then 1 year later I started getting into the kits and I thought a loud exhaust would be cool so i got it. Then noticing the import sceen is getting bigger and better. I wanted to go all out kitted spyder eclipse with nice rims and a loud, fast spooling turbo( is why I got the I/C piping kit and bov. I got all the supporting mods before I got my turbo. that allowed me to push 115,000 miles on my car with no major repairs. Now its time for a 14b upgrade( only because its christmas time and id like to spend the $600 i would have spent on the 16g on my girl. But when january comes my cars getting a rebuild and injectors and a super 16g evoIII turbo. thats when Ill be able to seriously do some humbling of my own to alot of the faster turbo cars out there with a show car spyder eclipse.
