Question More Suspension Questions

Well Christmas is coming up soon and i am getting ready to make my list and am looking to get some new struts. Currently I have a '90 Civic EX lowered about 2" with some cheap-o coilovers which i have been happy with. However I am in looking to put some Struts on my list and am wondering what type would be good. Right now the car has 132,000 miles and still had the stock struts...and has been lowered for approximately 6 months. Also, if you could tell me what the difference between stock struts and higher performance struts are. I am not looking to burn a hole in my family's pockets so i was wondering are Tokico HP Blue's good struts or what are some others. Sorry for such a long post but I don't want to get something that won't work right or will screw up my car. And yes i know i should have lowered my car w/ better coilovers but i am saving up for better springs right now. Thanx for your help.

Dude, I would definitely say get regular springs. They'll out-perform coilovers every day of the week. I'd recommend Progress or H&R for a good, comfortable ride without compromising cornering. I am an authorized dealer for both, and can get you hooked up if you want, just email me. As for shocks, the difference between stock and performance is the ability to travel at different lengths. With a stock shock, it is only set for stock length travel, so if you lower the car, it changes the travel range and damages the seals on the shock. A performance shock is designed for different ranges of travel without being damaged. Also, they are generally designed for faster response to keep your wheels on the ground. Just my but I've had several brands and that's what I keep coming back to...

Yeah i know about the springs/coilovers and such but right now i am happy w/ the coilovers and am just wondering out about struts. What would be some good types, if you could be specific i would greatly appreciate it so i could let my parents/grandparents know so they know exactly what to get. Thanx.

Re: More Suspension Questions

Sorry, I did get a little off topic. Unless you're wanting to do some serious autoXing, I would just go with some Tokico blues or KYB BR-2's. I have the KYB's, and they ride really nice, plus they're less expensive than the Tokico's. I have had several sets of blues, and the KYB's ride every bit as nice, and have held up nicely. I definitely would not go with any monroe or tire store brands, although they do advertise "performance" shocks, they just won't last like a good set.

Hey its ok about the off-topic thing. And about on average how much would a set of Tokico Blue's or a set of KYB BR-2's cost? Thanx for the help.

Re: More Suspension Questions

I think the Kyb's are around 50-60 and the Tokico's are like 70-80. Prices may vary. Try a google search.

Re: More Suspension Questions

you need to go with somthing better than HP's to have a controlled, non bouncy ride...

Tokico Illumina or Koni's or even KYB AGX... but not bilstein HD, tokico HP or KYB GR2's

What do u mean by a "controlled, non bouncy ride"? Won't the HP's be better than my 132,000 mile stock struts and be able to handle a lowered car?

Re: Re: More Suspension Questions

AGX does not recommend sleeves of any type - warraty void! If you can afford to get something better, go with Koni's or Tokico Illuminas

AGX Warranty will be void if
1. Vehicle lowered more than 1.5"
2. lowering done by using extremely short springs
3. The shocks or struts are modified(e.g. after market adjustable spring seats and collars)
