P10 Suspension Question

This may be an odd question.. but both my dad and myself think that my suspension on my P10 is rather odd.

In the rear the suspension is somewhat soft.. it always has been, even after the car is brought down about 1" to 1.5" due to the subs and amps in the trunk.

But the front suspension is rather stiff. Is this normal? It seems to me like it should be softer. Or am I wrong?

Mine's the same as are all TE Primeras I've bounced. They handle fine and as far as I know it's normal. What model you talking about?

Some others on this forum must have the same model...anyone?

Otherwise just do what I did and whenever you see one, give it a shove for comparison but watch out for car alarms, eh

Or.......give a Nissan Service Department a call and ask them what's normal..

You said your's is a 91, have any of the suspension parts been replaced yet? What i'm thinking is possible a previous owner used to carry stuff in teh trunk over the years and the back shocks or springs are starting to wear out (and at a faster rate than the fronts?) Or it could just be that teh fronts are stiffer, i know with my setup now the front is stiffer, but with 250lb springs in the back i can hardly call that soft But maybe check that out, just see if the back suspension is worn out?

I think the rear struts on a P10 have minimal compression and rebound damping. In fact, I recall replacing my old worn stock struts with brand new OEM struts on all 4 corners. There new OEM struts were noticeably firmer for the fronts on compression and rebound whereas on the rears, I could hardly tell them apart - maybe a 10% difference in compression and rebound between the old rears vs. new rear struts. In fact, if I mixed them up, I doubt if I could tell them apart by pushing and pulling on them. For the new OEM rear strut, I could *easily* compress and pull the shaft out by hand.

Compare this to a GAB or AGX rear where even at its softest setting, it takes a decent amount of muscle to compress and pull the shaft in and out of the strut.

The super soft rears is what I think gives stock G20s decent ride quality. When you replace the rears w/ heavier springs and struts, the ride quality deteriorates noticeably.

Glen
