I wouldn't use that 4 banger, too heavy, not enough payoff from it. You could look into some V6s, just go to google and check out some GM v6s. There is a super charged 3.8 (38.L or 3.4L can't remember) v6 and would give you enough to scoot that fiero around. But if you really want to get crazy, I say tubular engine cradle (acompanies new rear suspension), porsche 6 speed mated to a LS6. But I've seen more people do a regular V8 swap from archie's V8 conversion (archies has the best), or aluminum V6s that range from 3.1L to 3.8L.
Check these places out:

http://www.v8archie.com/

The held motor sports people used to have an engine cradle so that you could set up any configuration you wanted, but they made business moves, but you can ask them for the person who makes them and I think he still will be able to provide you with an engine cradle if you choose to

Re: race mod ideas

3800SC stock you'll hit 13's start modding it 12's, intercool it 11's 4 cylinder is light, but making power and keeping realibality is hard.

With your 4 cylinder in the car you most likely weigh 2450-2550 at most. I know a guy over on the pennocks is slapping in an LS1 http://www.fastfieros.com
