Do a search on this forum for "mods" or anything else you can think of. I promise you won't have enough time to read them all!

Re: mod ideas for my 03 silverado Ext 4x4

I would avoid a vortech blower... I had one and got burned by the warranty folks when the impeller shattered and took out my whole engine. So, think buying and installing a blower, then buying and installing a new engine.... it wasn't cheap. I recently got to work with a couple of guys from procharger on a TV show. One of them was one of the original designers for Vortech and now works for Procharger if that tells you anything. I am currently looking into putting a procharger system on my new engine.
When researching blowers, make sure you check out the companies tech support system. Modern engines have a lot of computer managed systems, fuel, torque management, etc. Most kits come with a fuel control unit and a VIN specific tuner to fix some of this stuff. Make sure they will fix your torque management or all that new power is gonna get checked by your computer to keep the tires from breaking loose! (speaking from experience) Also, if you have a 5.3 like mine (i'd assume the same for the 4.6) you need to get a kit that has an intercooler. Otherwise, your air mass will get too hot for your engine which runs around a 9:1 compression ratio. Kits without intercoolers have tuners that retard your timing to adjust for this which gives you nowhere near the power gain an intercooled system will give you. This is the kind of stuff they won't tell you unless you ask.
Will post more info on the procharger kit as I research and hopefully install...
BJ
