I am putting my 1994 honda del sol away for the winter next week and while during the winter i was wondering which engine I should get. I have been told that i should get the b16 and I have been told to get the b18. Truthfully i am leaning toward the b18, but i need more advice.

Re: which should i get b16 or the b18
b16 is cheaper. Get a b16 and bore it out to 1.8. That's what I did. Then again my car came with a b16 in it.

Your Sol is an S coupe isn't it? If it's Si, it should have a B16 in it already. Anyway, I would do the B18 for two reasons:
1) you're doing a motor swap, so you might as well get something larger then the 94+ Si had. 2) you can get a sh*t load more horse out of a B18 then you can a B16. |

Dark... you're wrong. The Si has a D16 SOHC VTEC block in it. The DOHC VTEC model is the one that comes with the b16 in it. And unless you're talking B18c5 (Type R), there is not much more power to be gotten from a b16 bored out to 1.8L, which by the way makes it the same size as a b18, versus a regular b18 block.

You could also get a B16 that needs to be rebuilt cheap and put in a GSR crank and rods then some PR3 pistons and have a real nice torquey motor with good hp. And you can tell people when you smoke them that it is a B16. The B16 in stock form is not all that great, but it has alot of potential. But if you go with the method I suggested above then you will have a 1.8L DOHC VTEC motor wih a head that flows better than the GSR head.

Re: which should i get b16 or the b18
When it comes to engines, you're gonna have a lot of different opinions. It really depends on personal taste. My friend Tim's weapon of choice is the 1.6L SOHC VTEC block.. the one in Si models. Yes it's a small motor, but he turns them into "rotating hand grenades" and pulls 11s at the track. He wouldn't work with a B series for himself if his life depended on it. Do your research on all the engines that will fit in a sol (D series and B series) and decide from there which one you want to get and what you want to do with it.

Emily-
Do you think you could get a list of mod that your freind has that's got him pullin 11's with the 1.6 SOHC? I wanna go faster, but I just can't afford a swap right now, or anytime in the near future. |

are you going to go n/a or forced induction? those are things to think about before purschasing an engine. i myself have a 94 s type and just about done dropping b18c5. another thing is if you have a budget. see i am rich

Forgive me, everyone, I suppose I didn't clearify myself well. In my original post, I was talking about a B18c5, and from my understanding of it: the 1994 and up Del Sol Si had a B16, it was the '93 (like mine) that had the D16. If I'm wrong, please let me know.
