Brake lights wont turn off even when car is off...
I noticed tonight when i parked that my brake lights didn't turn off, even when the whole car is off the lights stayed on. Basically after many calls it came to the conclusion that there is some type of brake switch or wire by the brake itself, very far on the top, but i really cant see any switch, if i go to a local store and buy a new wire or switch could an amateur like me replace it or should i take it to a mechanic, right now i had to disconnect the battery so i can drive the car in the morning. please help, any knowledge would be great.

.. there is a little switch that the pedal holds open (a switch between the pedal lever going towards the lower dash area, so when you step on the brakes the switch .. wanting to naturally be in a closed (on ) position makes contact and turns on the brake lights..,so the switch is probably loose and needs adjustment.. very rarely would a switch go bad.. because they are so simplistic in design. so you're switch wanting to naturally be closed/on isn't being depressed by the normal return/position of the brake pedal, .. the switch has a threaded hollow bolt and nut, like on bicycle's brakes for adjustment.
let me know how it went -mike |
