In a full quartermile race, the prelude's top end will beat out the v6 mustang. However, in daily stop light to stop light driving, the prelude's I-4 will bog down in comparison to the mustang's v-6.

SI is h23 motor its a 2.3 liter non vtec umm like 160 while the Vtec lude had the H22 a 2.2 liter vtec motor made 200-220 (depends on year one we speak of 200) there pretty close as far as anything other then that. The motors are real close i'll dig for some more info cause i'm not 100% sure my self.

Didnt the vtech have like some variable valve timing stuff? Maybe that helped alittle bit w/ horsepower????

variable valve timing and vtec is a little different, but in the same direction. vtec is sort of having two cams in one, like an on and off switch that kicks in at a certain rpm. imagine having a tame cam and an aggresive one over the same valve head that would swap back and forth depending in your need at the moment. it definatly helps out in the hp department.

I wouldn't think it too tall a tale for a VTEC Prelude with minimal options being able to put away a fully loaded 5.0 from the late 80s or early 90s. Put a few hundred in mods to each and the Mustang would quite easily triumph. As for the v6, I think your best bet is to perform a small block swap if you plan on beating much anything.

Re: prelude vs mustang

I would go with the Mustang. The race would be more about driver skill than car ability, and with the extra torque of the mustang's v6, I think it would be easier to drive quicker. According to www.car-stats.com, the lude does 0-60 in 6.7 while the mustang does it in 7.1, and the quarter is 15.3 vs. 15.6.

Speaking from experience...I have no issue with a v6 stang. Then again I dont have a stock prelude motor. Even the first year 5.0 is not an issue.....
