I need help on Climate control seems not to work

Hi there

My car is 93 cavalier and I got a/c. The problem is it seems like the control module is not working or might be something else. it's like, I can change the amount of air that should come out(so that thing works) but when I want to just have air going on top vent or just below, the air is coming out the same wherever I put the adjust knob. I mean there is no selection no more. The air just comes out on all vents even it's not supposed to. And one thing I noticed, like other posts I read, mine has to be cranked up to full power to get faster warm temperature(cold days) and same to get car a bit cold(hot days). Hope anyone can help.

thanks

I already checked it and they are all connected. About that vaccum tube.....where can I find them so I can check it and how would I know if it is bad? Is that the one with different color that is hooked up on the thing that looks like tiny distributor cap(as I described that thing). Sorry but I'm not that good in this stuffs and don't have time to bring it to dealer to get it fix, especially I know how much they charge. Hope you can follow through your kindness to help me with this.

thanks bro

Look on the firewall for a small black plastic tube. Look around the heater core hoses or the a/c lines. Follow that tube out from the firewall. If i remember right that one goes on the left side of the car and under the battery. If you find the break cut it out and splice it with a rubber vacuum line.

Re: I need help on Climate control seems not to work

Well if you take a look from under the glove compartment and remove that plastic shield and look way up you will find that there are about 5 different vacuum coloured hoses, if I can remember pink, green, blue, orange, they are all connecting to motors that push certin flaps open to go from vent to below, etc. well if these vacuum hoses were to disconnect then the motors can't push the flaps, check for hissing noises and reconnect them. It's possible that your hvac control is leaking vacuum.

ok everyone, i think i had enough of it. I checked the vaccum lines and there is nothing wrong with it. I checked the tubes connected to pan shape thing there and they are all connected well..no hissing sound or anything. I even replaced my heater/ac controller module(the whole thing) but still the same.

the adjustment from cold to hot is working perfect.
the adjustment for the amount of air to blow works perfect.
defroster works.
a/c button works.

the only thing that doesn't work is the airflow adjustment. the air just blows in the center vent and nothing below and side vents. I hope you guys notice that when you move your airflow to just below or just upper vent, you will hear that air sucking sound there. but mine doesn't do that anymore, it just stay in center vent and no reaction when moving the knob.

I'm thinking now that this is related to my cluster problem. When my cluster lights died, the shifter indicator light died and the heater/ac illumination died as well. so maybe someone had the same problem like this. The first problem I had was few blown fuse right after another everytime the cluster lights die. then after that it didn't blow fuse no more but all the lights i just said above never light again. I checked all the wires in the shifter lever but didn't find any short.

is that maybe because I shitched to aftermarker cd deck? But everything was working good for few weeks after i installed the deck?
I went to dealer and they quoted me around $200 for diagnos everything so I said no way since it's 93 model and will be replaced this comming summer. so any input will be appreciated. It's hard to drive when my feet are freezing. thanks in advace

okay, just a shot in the dark. When you flip your switch to different possions how does it feel? does it click and seem like it is moving, because my cable on mine came off and I had to put it back on.

when its on off position there is no sound at all. but when i move it in any position other than off, i can hear the fan blowing and air comes out only on center vents. The AC light(green led) will light if it's put to MAX and the far selection there(the one with defrost and below arrow) but doesn't change airflow direction.

Re: I need help on Climate control seems not to work

You need to find the black line under the hood to the HVAC system. I've done many cars with the same problem and never had to replaced the vacuum controller.
