Race last night...feel bad

Last night (friday) at about 1130ish raced an eclipse on 290. I was in the middle lane he was in the left, we started off goin same speed and then he gassed it..i have a 96 6speed Z/28 and i followed suit. I will say his car is pretty quick...however i was 1/2 car length ahead of him..then 1 car length..then 2...then 3..then 5..then 7 so on and so on until i realized the race was over because it was clear that i won. The top speed i hit was 133-135. So i slowed down to let him catch up so i could give him a wave or a thumbs up...cause i think if its a clean race (the opponent doesnt start the race by sayin he'll blow you away or talks shit about your car) then the winner should be cool about it...because it is just for fun..a lot of fun. So anyway i slow down to let him catch up and theres smoke coming from his engine...he pulls into the break down lane and i pull in front of him...i wanted to make sure they had a cell phone or somthin if they needed one..cause i have one. So he pops his hood and smoke flows out. I saw he has a v6 twin turbo..i asked him what year it is and he answered either 97 or 99...i was caught up in the moment. Anyway, I feel bad for the kid...he seemed to be about my age (21) and he seemed pissed..obviously, but was kind of smiling about it in the kind of "what the fuck am i gonna do" ...i just blew my engine
I guess i feel bad cause im sure he loves his car just as much as I love mine...it was clean inside and out, so that at least shows he takes care of it. poor kid

Way to go

Good story, man.
You're a cool guy, most people would have kept cruising and not cared about the other dude. You just don't see people helping strangers. I've been broke down on the highway and nobody helps out any more.

The ones who have stock cars with either just an intake pipe or one of those huge/loud exhaust tips deserve to get their S#*! blow off into the weeds. They have seen Fast & Furious too many times and think their stock skate boards can take on Z-28s and Corvettes.

You need to engrave a notch in your shifter, you killed an elite soldier. How many times do you see (or race) a rice grinder that is actually on steirhoids (however you spell it). One thing I have noticed is the ones that think that they are fast, make a lot of noise. The ones that are actually fast with turbo chargers or NO2, usually have a short life expectancy. -----So don't feel like it was your fault-----.
Like they say, "S#*! happens".
It is sad on his behalf, I would hate to crater a pile of dough too.

Ya their mentality confuses me...And in most cases I dont understand how they can keep a straight face when they say to themselves or someone else that their stock 4 or 6 can beat almost anything.

Ricer laughs

I have a good one for you, go to www.pro-touring.com/featured_cars/cars.htm click onthe "contacts" link in the blue section. It is some kid immitating your average ricer. It might take some time to load the sound track.

Then go to www.eurotuned.com/multimedia/gti_vs_civic.htm to see the video. Click "continue" when the music starts.

The 2000 and up GTs are the only eclipses with V6s, and the GSTs and GSXs are all 2.0s with a single turbo. Obviously he's upgraded, but thats still hard to see him getting a 6 in that little bay.

By the way, I was thinking about selling my car and maybe getting an LS1 camaro. We've always sort of been domestic. We had a 69 RS with a 350, it sounded nice. Then I got an import. But I'd rather have an all motor than have to FI it. Whats a 99 Z28 go for? KBB.com says about 10 for one in good condition. When were the LS1s available.

LS1's were available in 98-02 F-bodies. You could definately find a decent one for that price range
