intake system
hm..aiite-im thinkin bout gettin an intake system 4 mah 2001 civic lx auto but im not sure wut kind or wut brand to get. any suggestions?

Iceman is another good one. Just remember that with a CAI you have more chances of water ingestion which is bad for your engine.

if you are looking for a little power and alot of sound, I suggest a DAC from Dc sports; if you are looking for more power, less sound, then AEM cai is better. The DAC is cheaper than the cai but most people say the cai is worth it. (I decided on the DAC cuz my cuz gave it to me for $50
 )your call.

i hear best option is to get an intake that starts with 3 inch piping tapering down to 2.5 or so. it should increase velocity of air.
i got my intake off of ebay. they all look the same, but the filters are key. I had a couple filters fall apart on me.

AEM seems to be the brand that's producing the most power. They're not cheap, comparatively, but if you're looking to actually get the best intake out there, it's arguably from AEM. You could buy a generic intake for less than $40, and the hp difference is probably only going to be 1 or 2 horses, but like igo4bmx said, the filter is really important. AEM has both short ram and cold air, with an optional bypass valve.

I've seen the owner of AEM putting an AEM CAI with the bypass valve in a tub of water (Filter sunk all the way in) He's using his NSX so I guess that's supposed to mean that the bypass valve really works, but what happens if the filter is not all in a puddle of water? Is it gonna suck in water? Do you think the bypass valve works even if maybe 10 or 20% of the filter gets soaked in water?

Supposedly, the bypass valve is pretty effective. I've never heard of anyone driving through a puddle and having a problem, even with a cai, unless they were driving through what looks like a small pond...
If the filter just got partially wet, like 10% or 20%, it wouldn't really matter. Unless there's enough water to create a pressure seal throughout the filter connection to the intake tubing, the water won't travel up a certain degree bend in the pipe. There's probably some kind of little exception to this, because I know I can't say that's always the case 100% of the time, but barring some strange situation, it's right.
