1997 v6 alternator problems

My 97 eats alternators right and left. Since 99 we have put on at least 6, plus several new batteries. Now it's burning out the fusible link from starter to alternator. Anyone out there having this problem? If so I would appreciate any helpful info to resolve this problem. Thanks

Dang! For starters, I would splice a regular old fuse in before that fusible link so that you stop killing it. I know those get expensive. You've obviously got a short somewhere, or a wire exposed and rubbing. You might want to get a 0 gauge wire and attach it to your ground wire on your battery and attach that to the frame...that might help some.

Question

Since my last post I had yet another electrician go through the entire electric system and everything is fine. He recommended the problem could be in the starter which I have changed. So far the alternator is charging and the fusible link is O.K. I have encountered an intermittent ABS light. I understand the 90s GM are prone to cracks in the reluctor rings causing it to ground out. Has anybody else ran into this? Is there a way to tell what speed sensor is acting up without taking it back to the shop? All replies would be appreciated. Thanks
