No heat 1988 Crown Vic

I have an 1988 Crown Vic that is getting no heat. The car has automatic climate control. I by-passed the water control valve (the electronic valve that runs in-between the heater hose and still no heat. I was going to change the thermostat but a mechanic was in disagreement with me saying that the back hoses felt hot and I don't need a thermostat......Please help!!!! I need heat!!!!

Try back flushing the heater core with a garden hose.

i own a 89 vic its doing the exact same thing my heater core was plugged also is was my vacum doing also it would mot open the shutters alll the way have it checked out might help

It was the automatic temperature control sensor which is located above the glove box. It controls the blend door using the outside temperature. It kept telling my car it was warm outside so I got lukewarm air. That sensor was kind of a pain to change. Now I can roast chicken in my car the heat is hot!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm having the same problem. Where exactly is that temperature control sensor located. Inside the glove box or under the hood? What exactly does it look like?

First make sure the water is getting hot. I have rigged up a 1/2" pipe tee with a temp gauge that I put in the heater hose coming off the top of the motor I usually put this in where the lock out switch goes on models with climate control. If non climate control there will be just a splice in this area. Then drive the car and see what kind of temp you are getting. Should be from 190-210 farenheit. IF not change the thermostat. Make sure the blend door is closing. Now I have serveral crowns over the years and every one of them I have had to replace the Heater core. It is a pain in the ass but doable this is what I have found cures the no heat issue most often on these cars .

My crown vic has the same problem, sometimes its hot and sometimes cold. I will have my mechanic look at it, get back to yawl in about a week, but I`m sure its the temp sensor. When its hot its HOT.

I have an 89 Crown Vic. I replaced the heater core due to it leaking, and when the weather got cold, no heat. I did all the usual, t-stat, checking air doors, etc. Finally, I disconnected the heater hoses at the firewall, connected two shorter hoses, aimed one way from me, and clamped the other one to the end of an air gun. When I pushed the trigger, it shot black stuff out the open hose, looked like left over radiator sealant. I then changed hoses and repeated, because I wasn't sure which way the water flowed normally. It now works very good, even on a cold day.

Hi, I know it's been awhile since anyone has responded to this section but I've recently purchased a '88 CV and the fan works but I have no air or heat and my dad has noticed that the antifreeze is lower my uncles have mentioned the thermostat is probably stuck open. So my dad picked up a thermostat to change it but it's so different from other vehicles he's worked with he doesn't know where the right area for the thermostat is. He said he's worried to open up a gasket and make it leak.. I am not acquainted with cars haha and have tried to check online to see if I can find a guide or spec sheet for where it would be for an 88 but am lost any help would be appreciated!!! Like any sites where I could find some info would be great. Thank you!! :-)

The thermostat is located where the upper radiator hose enters the engine. To change it is a pain in the butt, because the lower screw is really hard to losen and especially get back in without at least removing the water pump pulley (if not to say it's impossible).

From the way I did it last time I would suggest you remove the fan (4 screws, their heads pointing toward the front of the car), then the shroud together with the fan (two screws on top of the shroud), losen the alternator (two nuts, one where it swivels, one on the bracket) and remove the belt, then the water pump pulley should pretty much fall of.

Remove all water from the cooling system by opening the petcock (located on the rear passenger side of the radiator - make sure car is completely cooled down!). Collect the coolant and reuse it if possible, do not drain it, it is extremely toxic, and especially cats and dogs are attracted to its sweet taste and will die if they drink enough! Remove the hose coming from the upper radiator connector and remove the two nuts holding the thermostat housing to the engine.

When putting the thermostat in, do not forget to put some RTV sealer on both sides of the seal that comes with it (if there is none coming with it, get one!!!), and make sure the bleed valve is in the 3 o'clock position.

Put everything back together, refill the cooling system, and you should be ready to go.
