SOHC vtec or DOHC ZC
i just wanted to know what you think would be a better way to go. i'm asking about these because first im on a budget, i dont want a car to race so i don't want a b16 or b18. so do you think my 90 hatchback would perform better with the sohc vtec motor from the 92-95 SI or a DOHC ZC motor.

I'd go with the SOHC VTEC. Ease of locating parts if anything goes wrong..
They'd probably be about the same for quickness.

def. get a sohc vtec, siz is right there is more of a selection of parts for that motor and if you ever did want to race all you would have to do is throw on a turbo.

Re: SOHC vtec or DOHC ZC
I would go with the JDM D15B it will cost around the same price as the 92-95 z6 and have more horse power with way more torque.

JDM D15B VTEC is a good choice, however it has *less* torque than the d16z6, simply due to its smaller displacement. The D15B can be had for a very cheap price, sometimes $550 shipped to your front door.

i dont like the d15b vtec, cuz one of my friends has that in his car and it is really weak. i was getting the d16 single cam vtec motor. i just have one ??? about it though. i hear you dont need different motor mouts for the ZC, will i need a motor mount kit for the d16 VTEC. i also have a question about ta whole different topic i hope u can answer for me. my friend has a gsr motor in his 96 civic. the motor is OBD2, what is the difference in OBD1 and OBD2.

That's what you're talking about, right? I've read that paragraph over and over again, and it still makes no sense to me. The most torque the D15B is going to have is going to be somewhere around 90lbft... less than that at the wheels. Once I finish putting mine in, I'll take it to have it dyno'd to make sure.

Okay so I read further down on the site I posted and and found the torque in kgm's. Being at 14.1 kgm for torque equals out to about 102ft pounds of torque rounding to the nearest number. Using a conversion chart for power. with 14.1 Kilogram-force meter/hour coverted to Foot pound-force/hour, equals
14.1 kilogram-force meter/hour = 101.9854989 foot pound-force/hour The site I used was http://www.onlineconversion.com/power.htm |

Plus I work full time and go to college as well, so I don't have too much extra time left to work on my car every week. I also can't seem to get the transmission oil drain plug out of my old engine.... I've tried everything but an impact wrench. As soon as I get that out though, out comes my old engine, and then starts my wiring nightmare. As for the valve cover differences, I have no thoughts on the matter. I just think it's kind of like with some peoples SOHC VTEC engines have VTEC on the valve cover and some don't... so perhaps some where painted, and some weren't.

That's what I'm still trying to figure out.
