alternator removal...
I know how to take the alternator off, but how to you get it out of the car so I can put the new one in. I got all of the bolts and the belt off, but I don't know how to get it out of the engine bay, there isn't enough room.

Unbolt the bracket that holds the alternator. It's easy to take off and put on. Once the bracket is unbolted, the alternator will come right out.

yeah I got the alternator off, I need to know how to get it out of the car. I can't find enough clearance any where to get it out of the car.

well i had to put my car up on ramps, there isn't enough room from the top but there is plenty of room if you jack up the car. it is very simple if you have the car jacked up. if you are trying from the bottom i have no clue what could be giving you problems.

Well, my problem is we tried to pull it out both the bottom and the top, but I didn't have enough room either way. My friend who has a 91 crx si said that I would have to take out my master cyl. so if there is anyway easier than that it would really help.

sorry i couldn't help, now that i think about it i had to do a great deal of twisting around to get out of my 88 civic dx, that car is now totaled and gone, but it eventually came out of the bottom, i just had to turn it in some funny angles.

Re: alternator removal...
there is a very easy way to pull it out. take off your driver's side wheel and tire. unscrew some of the splash guards and move them to the side, then you can pull it from the side.

Hold Up
I'm suprised that I have any easier way. I have to replace my alternator mutiple time now and I have become a pro. You uncolt the thing and it drops down unto the bottom of the engine bay. THer should be some metal bracing and such that will hold it there. You can then slide it from the right side of the engine bay to the left side. There is enough clearance if you move some houses around slighty (don't disconnect anything) simply push the houses aside and pull the alternator up and out.
This has worked serioulsy like 10 times now. Hope it works for you. |

I was just replying to apologize about my spelling mistakes in the last thread. I Will thus correct myself. "I've had to replace my alternator about ten times now and I have become a little bit of a pro at removing it."
Sorry about that Hope my infor helps though |

Re: alternator removal...
I am not a pro but I do know that if you unbolt the altenator and pullit to the top of the engine bay you can slide it through the back from the right to the left just behind the throttle body and you will have just enough clearence. Then put the new one in from the let to the right. Good luck and let me know what happens.

Re: alternator removal...
You got the alternator off, but did you remove the bracket on the engine?
![]() see the mount bracket? Remove that & the alternator will come out from the bottom w/ some wiggling. |

Hey 91bluedx, ever figure out why you were burning through alternators? I've gone through 4 now in just over a year, and I'm sick of it. I figure it was the cheap crap from O'Reillys, so I got a better one this time. New battery too. But I'm wondering how long this one will last....
