Progress: TA22 Celica 1600GT

Heres what Ive done so far on my Hasegawa TA22 Celica 1600GT. This is the first kit Ive done any modifications on and its been interesting to say the least so far...

This is it so far in Tamiya white primer. The body is going to stay pretty much stock. The only thing Ive done so far is full in the stock holes for the mirrors which were way up the front, the mirrors will be mounted just behind the a-pillars as in the reference pics below.

Not decided on a colour yet, thinking Taminya Gold or Crome yellow..any suggestions?
After painting and fitting all the suspension I discovered that the Aoshima wheels werent going to fit in the stock wheel archs. I decided to use the stock hasegawa tires on the front and the wider aoshima wheels on the rear and go for the street-drag car kinda look (wheels in the pic: left- Aoshima rear, middle-Aoshima front, right-Hasegawa stock). It doesnt really come out in the pic but ive used a dremel to widen the rear archs and made new ones out of styrene and putty which was a bit tricky as I had to do it without damaging the suspension allready installed. Hopefully they come out allrite with a bit of primer and flat black.

Ive also built a custom exhaust from the header back using sprues and muffler I had from another kit. Haven't decided on the second muffler yet..

A couple of reference pics Im working with..

Ill post some more pics when Ive finished building these wheel arches.

You know, IMHO it looks killer in white, maybe do a pearl white. That'd be sweet.

Very neat build-up, and the re-arched wheelwells is a great subtle mod. I'll be waiting for more on this one.

Those and Toyota TE27s are my absolute favorite old school Japanese cars. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Why are Celicas and Corollas FWD now, they use to be the shiet!

Few more pics..

Brakes adapted for female wheels from the Tamiya Celica GT-Four kit. Top ones are the adapted and the bottom ones are the stock ones off my good GT-Four kit.

This is the finished wheel arches yet to be painted.

Another shot with the wheels etc installed.

My current projects: AMT 1/16 25th Anniversary Corvette, Hasegawa 1600GT Celica, Tamiya Celica GT-Four

Im 99% sure Im going to go with pearl white, give the primer a week to harden and well see

This looks pretty cool. I'll be following this build up as I have one of these sat on my shelf to do myself one day. This is the kit I got is a Hasegawa of the '72 Nippon Grand Prix car. It's got those bolt on flares...looks good in the pics. I have a spare set of the flares if you want some.
