Cool TA22 Celica, OLD SKOOL BAYBEEEEE!!

hey, picked this model up recently, walked into a model shop i didnt know existed, and came out with this,
ive wanted to do one of these for a long time, what with being the owner of a celica and all, the old skool ones have always ment something to me(come to think of it,they all do) the colour was a hard choice for this, i wanted to keep the old skool look, but with a hint of new skool retro. i ended up choosing black, if im lucky i will be able to get a set of long-champs from the hobby shop in 2days, if not, ill have to have a look at whats available, im considering putting an intercooler between the headlights, but behind thick mesh, so that its not to obvious, im making a drop tank for it, they are really popular here is Australia on those damn V8's, but wioth this build, i looked at every style for inspiration, my friends all call this the wannabe mustang, i call the mustang, a wannabe-a-real-car, but not meaning to offend anyone here, each to there own i looked at the muscle car scene, taking influences from that,i looked at the jap car scene, hence the car is receiving a popular rotary exhaust down here in Aus called the Rota-Flo, this has no engine detail, but im gunna pretend its rotary powered, im also unsure whether to put a set of recaros in it, and whether to put a roll cage in, or keep the back seats, your opinion??anyways, hope you like my pics, the car neeeds a serious dust off, so sorry bout the dust.

WOW!!! ,3, yes 3 exclamation points. that paint looks phenomenal. I can't wait to see what the rest of the car looks like.

Don't you love finding local shops that are right up your alley of interests? I have yet to get so lucky.

Re: TA22 Celica, OLD SKOOL BAYBEEEEE!!

i fell so special now, i got 3 exclamation marks heh heh, thanks, and you know whats funny with that paint job? there was no undercoat, no sanding, and it hasnt been clearcoated OR polished.
and yeh, i do love finding hobby shops close by with everything i need, im actually in a really good area, there is one 5 minutes down the road, one half an hour away, and the official tamiya and aoshima importers, about an hour away.so suplys arent to hard to find round here, unfortunatly,
and thanks for the comment and the exclamation marks, made my day, woo!!!

Re: TA22 Celica, OLD SKOOL BAYBEEEEE!!

you gotta be careful when you paint over unsanded, unprimed plastic.
The reason it comes out so smooth and flat is because that's how it comes out from the moulds. Normally, you'd want to give it a good wash to make sure any release agent is removed. Just a warning but it has been known that paint that has been layed on, let's just call it "untreated" plastic doesn't always hold onto the plastic as well as it could/should and has been known to crack/chip more easily as it cures and shrinks.

In short, handle with care.....

Re: TA22 Celica, OLD SKOOL BAYBEEEEE!!

those photos are 2 days after ppainting,(48hr) will it still be shrinking?
and also, there are a fair few coats, would that help at all?
and you mentioned washing it, this will help? how should i go about that?hot soapy water? and one final Question, if i polished it, would it act as a sealent at all?to help protect it at all?

Re: TA22 Celica, OLD SKOOL BAYBEEEEE!!

honestly?
no idea.
some say that tamiya paints are hot enough to bite into the plastic by themselves so you might be fine without doing anything extra.
If anything, if this is how you've been doing it and everything's fine then chances are nothing is going happen.

It was just a little word of caution of what could happen.
