2001 Explorer Limited - Rear Defroster, Backup Sensor, Overdrive button, Auto Lock
I recently bought a 2001 Explorer Limited. Everything is great on the vehicle except a few minor things. In fact the vehicle is in such good condition I was hoping that someone here might know if these minor items are related somehow before I pay the warrenty deductible to get them fixed. The problems are...
1. Pressing the Rear Defrosted button does nothing. 2. The Backup Sensors do not beep (even when backing up slowly into another vehicle). 3. The 'OFF' light does not light up when in reverse and the back up Sensor is depressed (the 'OFF' light never comes on). 4. The 'Overdrive' button does nothing. Although there is a light for it on the dash it never lights up. 5. The 'Auto Lock' feature does not lock the doors when the vehicle is put into gear. I have inabled the feature using the keypad on the drivers door and useing the 'Key' option as shown in the owner's manual. Anyone have any idea what might cause these issues. Maybe I am chasing a ghost here. Maybe all the problems are individual and I should pay the money. However, I figured I would ask those smarter then I before I ran out and hit my pocket book. Thanks, Michael |

I've been looking into buying a 5.0 explorer and have done my research. From my understanding these are very common issues. I would be less worried about coming out of my pocket book for the warranty deductible costs and more worried about hastling the hell out of Ford Motor Company to cover their part of the warranty. Check out this website. www.carsurvey.org. It has cunsomer reviews of common problems. Good luck at the dealership. Remember if they try avoiding the costs of warranty or tell you "they can not duplicate syntoms" then stick your foot in their ass and SHOW them exactly what it's doing. If their Master Tech is busy, grab the owner or highest manager, grab him by his feet, drag him to your car and "duplicate the problem" to him physically. If that fails blow up the dealership and go to mexico and blow up all the plants that they recently moved down there.
