2001 Explorer Sport - Rear Window Wiper doesn't touch rear window

I am the 3rd owner of this car and when I tried to rear window wiper for the first time I realize that the blade doesn't touch the window for 70% of the wipe. It eventually touches it on driver side (i.e. after making the trip over there). It doesn't seem to be bent or anything, and I assume the window is factory installed (the rear defrosters still work) but the blade just wont touch the window at first. I could make a quick video of it if that would make it easier to tell what I am seeing. Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: 2001 Explorer Sport - Rear Window Wiper doesn't touch rear window

I'm not sure if the 2001 is same as earlier models so check this out. Bend the wiper back as far as it will go and look at where it is hinged. If there are two finger stops there (sort of U shaped, one on each side), that is your problem. These are too long and hold the wiper off the glass. File the tops of these stops off about 1/8". I filed mine down in just a few minutes with small triangular file - they are aluminum and goes quick.

Some suggest bending the wiper arm for more contact but didn't work well for me. Still had streaks and spots. Filing the stops down gives clean wipe side to side and top to bottom.
