Cat or Resonator?

Okay, I was down at the muffler shop the other day, and the guy was tellin me about how a lot of people bring in resonators they bought from an import store, and they swore up and down that they were cats. I dont really know if this is a catalytic(sp?) converter or if its a resonator. I really want to get it tho, because I have 65 bucks saved up for it. Which is it? I need to know so I can get it...thanks.

Re: Cat or Resonator?

looks like a resonator that gets bolted into the spot of your cat... it would make your car faster, louder and create more polutants... if you only have emissions tests every few years, get this and then when you need to test, put the stock cat on!

Re: Re: Cat or Resonator?

PS... the only way to tell is to look directly through it,.. if you can see right through, its a resonator... if it looks like screen/honeycomb... its a cat

"Made by T-306 Aluminum Chrome Finished Increase 10-15 horsepower" That's the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. Don't even waste your money on it.

I knew the 10-15 gain was a bunch of B.S. but I still thought that by opening the flow a bit more, I'd gain maybe 1-2. But still, if I shouldnt waste my money on it, what would your advice be, just open my piping to 2.5?

Honestly, a cat does not hurt your flow that much unless you're pushing serious horsepower. Generally, just upgrading to 2.5" pipe will give you all the flow you need.

K cool thank you for the advice, I got my muffler comin in the mail, so when I get it and my next paycheck, I'll get 2.5 piping and get my new muffler put on, hopefully this one will sound better than my old one...

Re: Cat or Resonator?

i say that it will get louder because you have to take off the cat first... that thing quiets down the exhaust WAY more than any resonator ever could...

the best setup would be headers to the resonator to 2.25 inch pipe to the muffler...unless your running a 200 HP B16... then i would go with 2.5 inch to the back...
