I'm new to the boards but have noticed so far, you all been very knowledgable throughout!!
I have two seperate problems..just need advice or to know where to start. I have a 1994 Grand AM SE 3.1L V6. it's been a decent car. its got 178,900km on it. 1.)I had just had my yearly set of rotors put on it...as well as had the back brakes done a little while ago. Everything should be fine. but it is not. my mechanic, who is my close friend's father and owns a shop, did the work, as he always does. I've noticed the brakes are obviously much better with minimal pulsating at high speed 'quick stops.' (there's still a bit of a shudder, but whatever) Now, all i am dealing with is an annoying 'tick tick tick' sound emitting from my drivers side wheel. like something is hitting something else. He haspulled my wheel several times and has looked at everything..anti rattle clips, the pads... has taken it for rides, and doesn't getthe tick tick..(but he also has somewhat poor hearing) so i went with hm. Do ya think the wheel ticked??? nope! anyways, i know the noise is there, as i've been commuting lately and when i'm in traffic and in the left lane against the barrier, i can here the noise quite clearly..."click click clickclick.." He has informed that ya, i could use a Driver side wheel bearing soon..he did my passenger one las summer...and they can hear 'the early warning noises" of that going, but where the hell is this click coming from. he's had my car, ive gone wioth him, and it doesnt seem to decide to do it when he has it...so rather than bug him again...(and he's hard to get a hold of) .... any suggestions? backing plates? anything related to the calipers??? i only have limited knowlege of cars, but it usually happens after i've drove for awhile and especially after the car is driven for an extended period...it's driving me nuts..that and i need damn rotorspads all the time....(Grand Ams in general more frequently than other cars i've noticed!!) 2.) my second quesiton...another one i haven't got him to look into too deeply other than the mention of possibly having a windsheild leak somewhere..is that I have a soaked floor. all the time. but especially after heavy rain. The driver's side is the worst, followed by a damp to wet passenger side front and the worst is the passenger back. There is an inch or more of water back there after heavy rain or driving in it. I removed the Wiper Well cover and cleaned as much crap outta there as i could. it wans't all that horrible though(that and i couldnt get my wiper arms off>). I have no clue where this is coming from. the carpet by the firewall appear dry. i's jsut where the surface is flat is the wettest. and the back pass. side. my driver pass. side is DRY!! what the hell could be causing this and where the hell is this water getting in considering the firewall carpet is dry? i sprayed it down one day(although was pressed for time) near the front windsheild and the back pass. dor, and didnt see anything, but i need another person to actually sit in the car while i do it...any leads/suggestions??? I know theres two weird vents or 'humps' under each seat. don't know what they are?? wher do they go?? could the water be gettin in that way?? |

1994 Grand Am GT holding water inside!
I have the same problem with my vehicle. Most recently, I had the windshield replaced. But with the very little rain we have had in my area, the problem did not show up until a heavy rainfall. Prior to the windshield replacement, NO-PROBLEMS! Your guess is as good as mine. I had just vacuumed out the water today, and it is supposed to rain tomarrow, and you know what is next. Let me know if you find a solution, PLEASE!!!

I'd take it to a body shop to find the leak. Or a collision repair place. They're more used to that type stuff than a normal mechanic.
As far as the ticking goes, do you have wheel covers? If so, take them off and see if the noise goes away. Wierd, I know, but it wouldn't be the first time that's happened. |

Re: 1994 Grand AM 3.1L issues!! HELP!!!
I've had the leaking problem on a couple of vehicles and it has been the windshield seal both times. I'd take it to a glass shop. As for the ticking sound, if the rotors had just been replaced I'd check if the squeel indicators are still in the right position and not hitting the rotor somewhere. Sorry about digging up an old post, but I ran a search and figured I'd kick in my 2c.
