Question Part Time lamp

I just bought an 88-4wd Cherokee L6 - 4.0L.
To the left of the steering column there is a light
that displays “Part Time” that is always on.
Can anyone tell me what it means and what controls
it? I have Haynes manuals but they make no mention
of the lamp. Switching from 2wd to 4 or back makes
no difference.
I would also like to know what the switch
to the right of the column does that has a transmission
symbol and says power or comfort. When should I use
it?
Thanks for any help.

part time refers to part time or full time 4wd.

I was told the power/comfort switch is a sort of reverse overdrive (under drive?). when switched to power it's supose to gear you down a bit. at least that is what I was told, I've tried the switch in both positions on my 89 and I cant tell any difference.

"Power" is probably something like a lower gear for extra torque.
"Comfort" is probably more what you would use most often.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

part time light

the transmission switch is to change the shift point for the transmission.
on power it makes the transmission kick down at half throttle position,as a result you lose gas milage. in comfort it make the transmission shift at full throttle position, hence you save gasmillage
