I just bought an 88-4wd Cherokee L6 - 4.0L.
To the left of the steering column there is a light that displays “Part Time” that is always on. Can anyone tell me what it means and what controls it? I have Haynes manuals but they make no mention of the lamp. Switching from 2wd to 4 or back makes no difference. I would also like to know what the switch to the right of the column does that has a transmission symbol and says power or comfort. When should I use it? Thanks for any help. JayB |

part time refers to part time or full time 4wd.
I was told the power/comfort switch is a sort of reverse overdrive (under drive?). when switched to power it's supose to gear you down a bit. at least that is what I was told, I've tried the switch in both positions on my 89 and I cant tell any difference. |

"Power" is probably something like a lower gear for extra torque.
"Comfort" is probably more what you would use most often. Correct me if I'm wrong. |

part time light
the transmission switch is to change the shift point for the transmission.
on power it makes the transmission kick down at half throttle position,as a result you lose gas milage. in comfort it make the transmission shift at full throttle position, hence you save gasmillage |
