full time, part time 4wd
When I bought my jeep gc, the dealerr explained all the gadgets adn widgets. but when he explained the transfer case as Part time to be used as something to leave it in all winter pretty much in case i all of a sudden encounter something that i might need it for. and full time as something to use when i know i am going to need the 4wd and not so much for driving around and corners so much on the street. I thought this made no much sense and that maybe he had it backwards or something.
the manual backs him up. can someone confirm again to ease my mind and give me some lingo in english. this jeep was my step up from an 87 yota pickup that if i was lucky enough to have the hubs locked in when i slipped around, i just jammed er into 4wd and went. just so that you dont think i'm an old lady who doesnt get the principles of this stuff. i guess i just dont get the lingo or the technology. thanks a lot |

Re: full time, part time 4wd
well I think they do have it wrong and I think the Manual might be a miss print, u have the NP242 Transfer Case, right?
4WD Full Time - is for driving around (all year around). 4WD Part time - lock both front and rear axles 2gether so they spin at the same time (not safe on dry pavement) this allow for ultimate traction while offroad. I have a 94 ZJ with quadra-trac, and on the bezel for the Transfer case it reads 4WD Full Time, and it's all time 4WD, so I think that the Full Time is for all year around driving, and the part time is for off roading and such (not safe on Dry Pavement). |

Re: full time, part time 4wd
I agree with dksob81! My 98 ZJ has Selec-Trac, & my manual reads that 4WD Full-Time can be used all year round if I choose! My 4WD Part-Time should not be used on dry pavement, just like dksob81 states.

Re: full time, part time 4wd
dksob81 is right. I used to sell jeeps. the salesman you had is unfortunately common. Full time is what is says 'FULL TIME'. Part time-same thing. just what it says. don't get no simpler.
