Question smoking

Hello i just bought a 91 4.3 chevy s-10 blazer 4x4. When i first start it up it smokes blueish whitish color. it seems to clear up after while. if i let it idle for a while it evenutally smokes a little. but when i stomp after it idles for a while it smokes pretty bad. i'm leaning more toward oil burning than water. I'm thinking it is either the rings or the valve guide seals. how can i tell? if my assumption is right?

Re: smoking

Small block GM engines (the 4.3 is the same design just missing 2 cylinders) have been known to need valve stem seals.
They will get hard and crack causing oil to run down the stems and be burned in the combustion chamber.
I would start there first.

Re: Re: smoking

Now is this procedure pretty easy to be done? I am mechanicly inclined. Do i have to just remove vavle cover, spark plugs, rocker arms, and have a valve compression tool. and what if anything do i put in spark plug hole to keep valve from dropping into cyclinder. or do i have to remove the heads? Or what does this procedure usually cost to get done?

Re: Re: Re: smoking

Prety basic job to do in your backyard, chris.
Stop at your local chevy/gmc dealer, there has been an updated seal kit out for quite some time.As
for holding the valves shut, use an air compressor &
the appropriate fitting in the S/P hole. No compressor than rent one,the small ones are cheap.
Labor, lets see ??? at about $85.00 an hour your looking at about $340.00 plus parts.
