Custom Wheel Tire Pressure Monitor Problem

I have a 2004 Denali with tire pressure monitors and I have the following problem.

I recently acquired a set of 20" Torq Thrust ST wheels and I was just about to have them fitted when the wheel fitters said they would not work. The reason they gave was that the valve orientation on that wheel would cause the tire pressure monitors to stick up into the tire. They claimed that if I went over a pothole with the tire the deformation of the tire might cause damage to the monitor. They said to avoid this I would need valve holes that allowed the valve and monitor to be mounted horizontal (next to the wheel).

In view of this I have the following question:

Has anyone fitted Torq Thrust ST wheels (or wheels that cause the monitor to sit up in the tire) to a 2004 Denali? If so did you have any issues with the tire pressure monitors?

Thanks in advance

We don't carry American Racing rims so I'd don't have specifics on the compatibility problem . . . but your Denali must use a Schraeder valve stem type monitoring system which can not be properly mounted on your new wheel. We've had to have several of wheels re-designed for compatibility. There are no "adapters" that make the wheels compatible.

Your wheel supplier should have talked about this when your ordered the wheels . . . since they did not I would recommend asking them to purchase a strap sensor Tire Pressure Monitoring System such as the Smarttire System, see more at:

Is that system compatible with the OEM system? I.e. if I put those monitors on the wheels will they work with the Denali system in the vehicle?

No, you will have a different display . . . but it should be able to smoothly integrate into the dash. See pic of display(s) at:
