Should I buy this Z?
Alright it's a 1983 280ZX with 66k miles. NA I think...haven't seen the engine, but there are no turbo badges on it. Has a decent interior and it's a 5 speed. T-Tops outside and the dark brown paint looks like it's in good condition. No signs of any collisions and all the body panels line up very well. One spot of rust near the front bumper, but everything else looks fine. They want 2000 for it...is that a good deal?

I believe so...havent sat in it yet...but through the window it looked like it said that to my gf...maybe 166k, but I think she would look for the digit before the 66k...though maybe it only has 5 digits rather than most newer cars with 6...which is probably the most likely answer
I'll talk to the guy saturday and see what he says about it. Then sit in it and see how I like the layout and then maybe a test drive...then to my mechanic and then maybe I'll buy it... Any idea what my insurance would be compared to a 1998 Chevy Cavalier 2 door? I imagine less with the Datsun, but since it has an I6 rather than I4 and it has t-tops...so I'm not sure...

even if its 166k..thats still pretty good for a 83, my 89zxT has 167k miles on it. Why dont you take it for a test to see how you like it, if the drive doesnt suit you. You can always buy it for just the body (assuming its good) and do some swaps. larger engine perhaps
good luck on your decision.

i would say don't buy it. save up and get a turbo z31 or maybe even a z32 for a good deal.

Yeah I'll probably wait for a s13/s14 or z32...I still like the datsun though and will probably buy it if my car suddenly dies or if I find out the insurance would be around 100 instead of the 200 I'm paying right now.

a simple point of advice, if it has a ZX after the model and isnt a turbo, its junk. for na z cars you have to stick with 70-78 Z's. first gen is the only ones you will get anything out of without a turbo.

So what you both are saying is unless it's the older 240 or 260z then if I get it I should just do a swap?
