Strange Problem
My brother recently handed me down a 1993 Nissan Altima that has been having some problems lately. The first week i had it, it was fine. A couple of days ago i was driving down a main road and all of a sudden all the dash lights turned on, my steering locked up (because i lost power steering), and the gas pedal stopped working. I had to pull over to the side of the road and switch off the car. I switched it back on and it worked fine again. This has happened two more times since then. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should check out?

I'm not sure it's a problem with the battery. I think i'm going to get my fuel pump checked out because the gas stops working when this happens. The lights, radio, and everything else electrical, including the brakes, work fine when the car shuts down.

I had similar, if not exact, symptoms in my Honda when the timing belt broke. But, it definitely wouldn't start back up.
![]() I'm pretty sure the Altima has a timing chain, so that's not your problem. Could it be in the timing, though? Not much of a mechanic, so don't laugh too loudly.... |
