Talking few Qs that need some As

alright heres a few questions that i have been trying to find answers too
(For 5.0 mustangs, LX)

1. How well does a speed density 5.0 mustang handle a supercharger (around 6 psi)

2. How much power have any of you gotten out of exhaust mods, such as heads, x-pipe , and cat back.

3. Im currently looking to get some full length headers (BBk 1 3/4"), BBK hi-flo shorty H-pipe (offroad), Magnaflow performance stainless steel cat back exhaust system says it outflows stock by 167%,. Does anyone know how loud this setup will be and how much power is gained? Will i get pulled over with a system like this?

4. Gearing, from what i here 3.73 is the best, but what about the other ratios? Anyone have something other then 3.73, if so how does it ride? How much does it cost to get gears installed or is it not to hard to do yourself. Also another worry of mine is how the speedometer is affected.

5. Insurance, how much do you guys pay? what should i expect to be paying if its on my moms plans who is married, has a full time job, good credit and has never had anytickets or accidents ever. It will be the only car on the plan. I live in New york to.

6. Reliability, my last 2 mustangs were pretty reliable, they had pretty high milage but were stock and carburated and i only drove them at the middle of the night because I never registered them. I dont have much experiance will feul injected 5.0s so i would like some feedback.

And for those wondering why i never registered them was because unfortunatly my parents wouldnt let me put them on their plan because i had to prove i am i good driver and can be trusted. I bought them, did some body work (updated the front) and resold for a bit more. With that money i bought the feul injected 5.0. that i am asking questions for right now.

7. Also, a little off topic what do you guys think of the Datsun/Nissan Z series cars, i just want to see what the mustang guys think of these cars, i realy like the 240Z.

thanks to all those who reply

Ok, first question-Speed Density doesnt handle a supercharger well at all, simply because it doesnt respond well to modifications, especially a supercharger. Number two-exhaust on mustangs is a good place to start simply because of the "restrictiveness" (is that a word???) anyways... you could expect to gain around 20-30 horsepower w/ a stock 'stang and full exhaust. Number three-that setup will be pretty loud, but very good sounding... and "offroad" means no cats...means no emissions...means no tag. (If you have emissions). Number four-3.73 gears are the best all around gears, 4.11's are too low, and not good "highway" gears. 3.55's are decent too. Never try to install it yourself unless you really know what your doing, everything in the rear-end has to be perfectly balanced. Number five- I pay $140.00 a month insurance, not so good, obviously, if your over 25 then it goes down. Number six- Reliablity is not all that good with these cars but your engine will last over 200,000 miles if you take care of it (oil, tune-up, ect.) Number seven-I have no idea about those cars, so.......

thanks, how much will the 3.73 gears cost to be installed?

on a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate the reliability?

I figure i'll just put the h or x pipe w/ the cats back on when i get the car inspected.

And another questions, How can i convert to mass air? anyone know were i can get the parts? how much will it cost?

Also, im looking through a brothers performance catalog, it says the trick flow intake manifold will add 35-40hp and its only 400bucks, anyone have one of these? Will it add that much power and do i have to modify anything else? The description is as follows-

Direct replacement (i learned not to always beleive this)
Bolt on 35-40hp
-poweder coated good looks that last
-Fits all 86-93 mustang 5.0l

5.0l EFI intake manifold kit....$399.99

35-40hp does that seem right?

What are you talking about? 20-30 hp just from a complete exhaust system on an otherwise stock car? You have to be kidding me?!?!?! More like 15 hp +/- a few hp, and that's pushing it!

1. Speed density is tricky. It can handle mods if you know exactly what your doing. I wouldn't supercharge a SD car though!

2. See above.

3. It will have a nice sound. Magna flows are not as loud as other mufflers though. Will be quieter at idle, but have a nice aggressive sound at WOT.

4. Manual, 3.73's nothing less. Auto trans, 3.73 or 4.10 gears.

5. 2 cars, 3 tickets back in 98,99,00. I pay roughly $3200 a year for full coverage on both vehicles.

6. You treat it right, it will treat you right.

7. I have no problem with Nissan Z cars.

A lot of companies sell conversion kits with detailed instructions for SD to MAF conversations.
Also those HP #'s that manufactures list are not on stock cars. Their tests are performed on modified cars, and those rating are peak hp gains in combination with other performance parts. Don't expect 35-40 hp on a basically stock car.

Z, z, z. I know some things about them.

1 Highly tunable
2 Looks cheap
3 Not reliable
4 pretty low price too

#1 The Camaro is out, it can't handle the heat of this country.
#2 So much for "The Camaro is out...", I found one which is tuned to handle the heat and its 1995 for 2.5K, its not my final decision though.
#3 Camaro is out, someone bought it before me.
#4 Found a 300ZX 1986 in good condition for 2400, will take it for a check up on thursday.

hehehe Z's are incredibly reliable i just wouldnt beat the shit out of a classic z cause the parts are getting even rarer. Me and my friend beat the shit out of a 1986 300ZX and it ran for years with almost no maintance it tapped for a day about a year ago and we dropped the oilpan and cleaned out all the crap. 90's 300ZX's are reliable too just tight engine space, come'on its a nissan there all reliable and can take abeating.

Still need 2 questions answered, about how much $$ does it take to get 3.73 gears installed, and how do i convert to mass air?

Ok

The price for the gears will change for location, in Alabama where I live they want $200 to install the gears, but it was about another $100 for the correct speedo gear and install. As for MASS conversion check with Ford they were the first ones to offer a conversion and from what I have read there's was the easiest.

HiFlow5.0, no i'm not kidding....did i put a "i'm kidding" smilie in the sentence???? I dont remember doing that....do you???? And by the way, did you forget that he mentioned "heads"??? Yep, sure enough. Let's see, ported and polished heads, the cats are off w/ bigger tubing, the stock mufflers are thrown, and larger tubed headers are installed and your saying 15 horsepower??? Yah, hey why doesnt he go ahead and add a supercharger and get an additional 20??? omg...

Seeing how the only mention to heads was in the exhaust statement, I almost postive that he means headers and not heads. So going off that, my statement still stands!

Next, in your statement you said nothing about polished and ported heads, but rather on a stock stang. Humm, kinda interesting don't ya think?

$100 bucks for a $10 gear and a install that takes 5 minutes.... ouch!!!!
Ford Racing Mass Conversion is good but way too much $$$$$$

Well what he means and what he said was too way different things, dont ya think??? And it's not like porting and polisheing heads are a big thing, when i mean otherwise stock i mean it could have a cold air kit, exhaust, 65mm tb, pulleys, ported intake and other little things. Unless you consider (like almost everyone else) a cold air kit to add 50 rwhp???
Yeah look, i've got a K&N filter, my stang will run 10's now.

You have to be kidding me?!?!?!?! You consider those mods along with P/P stock? LMAO!

Reading and deciphering logically what you have read, along with taking into consideration the nature of a persons post can go a long way in answering questions. I would go on, but I'm not here to jump down your throat. Please think before you post!
